Changing From 3:42's To 3:73 Or Even 4:10's In 09 Cc With 6.2

As stated above just looking into different options for my new truck. It's a 09 CC LTZ with the 6.2 and 3:42's.

How much would I gain in 1/4 mile times with te gear switch and on the other side how much would it kill the MPG's?

Thanks in advance guys!!

you're in uncharted territory here....

since GM now offers trucks with the 3.73s, that'd be a safe bet and you can look at their #s. With 4.10s, you're on your own until someone else does it

I'd go with 4.88's.

Oh come on Jeff. That would be overkill. I would think 4.56's would be just right.

Lol c'mon guys he's new to the forum and may even be new to trucks.... Not everyone knows how gears work let alone tranny's, that's why we're here.... To help.

Thanks guys for all my new choices I have to think about now  .Just looking to have a overall nice quick truck that can run 13's(hopefully the lower part of them  ) and still be reliable enough to drive 20K miles a year.I might be getting a trailer for my business that I would have to tow around a few times a year but it would be a small one (5X12) so not really worried about the toing art of the gears.I have all the cosmetic stuff done to to already(chrome handles, nerf bars,Bug shield, rainguards, tint) and she just hit 500 miles yesterday so looking at the perf. mods now. These are my choices and PLEASE feel free to comment good or bad.

1)headers-Was going to go with Dynamax but keep reading great things about ARH's

2)CAI- Volant seems to make the best one or at least the only one for a 6.2 right now that's recommended.

3)Tune- probably Westors as I've dealt with them before and happy.Keep hearing they can't do a "complete" tune because of something in the tranny unless the truck is actually at a shop.Anyone else hear this? Only on 09's?There are plenty of gas stations that carry te 93 octane too and was wondering if I should go for that as I read on here last night that the 93 tune is much better and even gets ya some extra mpg's

4)exhaust-Probably a Corsa again but not sure about the rear or side output.Any difference inthe 2 besides looks?

5) Cam???- not too sure on this one as now you're going internal and could easily void that nice 100K warranty.I have good hook-ups at the dealer but don't want to push it to far.any clue what kinds of gains you get with one?

Thanks ahead of time for answering all or any of my ?'sTruck is 4X4 too if that helps

I say go for all of your performance mods first and do gears last. Even without the cam, with everything you've listed you should be in the low 14s.... I would ask Justin at black bear about the tune.

Why not go with a supercharger? That'll get you plenty of performance, and with your 3.42 spinning low rpms on the highway it won't kill your gas mileage or overall drivability... Just a thought

If you don't want to end up changing cams, do not click on this LINK...I repeat DO NOT click here. It could lead to more horse power and hot rodding.

Something else to consider if you are on the fence about a gear change. You could buy a cheap set of 17 or 18 inch rims and get a tire that is 2 to 3 inches shorter than your current tire. That would give you an idea of what it would be like with a lower gear ratio.

2 inches shorter would be like having 3.66 gears

3 inches ... would be like having 3.77 gears

Just buy the Jeep SRT8 I'm selling (link in my signature). Then you can run low 13's to high 12's on a stock engine. And they have an aftermarket towing setup you can add. Perfect!

no bad it's a mopar, will fall apart on your ass 15 minutes after the warranty's up if it hadn't already.

Nice

Nothing like some blind hatred.

FYI, I can't wait to get my GMC but this Jeep has been one of the best vehicles I have owned. In fact, have owned Chrysler, Jeep, and Dodge and have never had a single issue with any of them. Thank you for your opinion though.

I've had no more problems with my jeeps than I've had with my previous ford, Chevy, and now gmc....there is no such thing as a perfect car company

66,

Yeah I clicked on it and forgot all about how that cam hooks up these engines.I was looking at getting an EXT a while back and read about this.Looks like I might as well do that too lol.Any thoughts on what it will do to the durability or life of the engine? If I floor it more then 5 times a week I would be surprised but want it there wehn I do  .

Kick a$$ SRT8 you have there. If I was in the market for an SUV, I would definitely take a look. I had a Grand Cherokee limited back in college and loved it....never had any problems with it.
