Engine Change Help Please...

Hi there,

I'm having to change the engine in my 92 Silverado. Anyone have a link to a step by step to guide me through this? I've changed engines on Hondas many many times, so this is nothing new to me. The whole V8 thing is though, so pointers to make it go more smoothly would be fabulous. I have an engine hoist and pretty much all the tools I'm going to need.

Its a 2WD currently with a 305, but the truck originally had a 350 in it, and that's what I'm going back to. I got a complete motor from a 95.

Any help would be appreciated. I've done some searching, but haven't had much luck.

Thanks.

Always mark(with masking tape & #s)when you remove any wires and vacuum hoses.I like to remove ''assemblies''.If you remove the dist. cap be sure when you put it back on you have the correct firing order.I'd leave the wires on the cap and only remove 'em from the plugs. You have a compressor and air tools, right? Get a repair manual if you haven't already done so...

If it's an AT leave the tranny in the truck.MT,pull it with the engine

A Haynes manual will give you pretty good step by step info

Hi there,

I'm in the midst of the engine change, and have a question:

The flexplate on the 305 that is coming out does not fit the crank snout on the 350 that I'm putting in. The centerbore on the flexplate is too large, and the bolt pattern is on a larger diameter than the crank in the 350. I bought another flexplate with the correct centerbore and bolt pattern, but this new flexplate had what appears to be a counterweight welded to it in and around the bolt holes for the torque converter. Can I assume that since the crank snouts were different, that my replacement 350 motor needs this counterweighted (balanced) flexplate. The 350 crank has a plain round snout, whereas the 305 crank snout has a counterweight on it at the flexplate bolts.

I'm ready to bolt the new motor in, but for obvious reasons want to be sure the flexplate is right before I do.

Thanks,

Jacques
