Hey everyone..I have a 04 GMC Sierra 2wd with 5.3,AEM intake, cat back flowmasters,e3 plugs, flexalite fans and superchips tune. Looking to put a mild cam in it-have did some research on it but still havnt come up with definite answer! Not wanting to spend lots of money..just want a mild cam that can give some more punch. Looked into the ls6 cam-can get in the upper 200 buck range an have heard one of the easiest gain you can get while not gettin crazy. I realize it basically doesnt do much for low end at all but suppose would have to drop 5 grand on supercharger to do that! What im wondering is if i decide to go with ls6 cam can i run stock pushrods or wil hav to get longer ones. if so how long? also is my superchips tune enough? Read even if ecm is stock it will adjust so..any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! :) sorry if topic already previously hashed out..im new here. also what about valve springs?? stocks work or need to upgrade for full benefit?

I'm sorry I can't answer all those questions, but I'm pretty sure the cam will work for you.

I've read that these were a good upgrade cam and had purchased a Fastburn 385 crate motor which came with this ZZ4 cam installed I removed it before installing the motor because I went with the GM Hot cam.

You might want to start a thread asking if the ZZ4 cam will work in your motor and ask about the differences between it and the Z06 cam.

ZZ4 cam...

Maximum lift with 1.5:1 rocker ratio (intake/exhaust) is 474/501.

Valve lash is zero/zero and lobe centerline is 112 degrees.

Z06 cam...

These are "actual" numbers from a cam that was check with Cam Doctor

[email protected]: 205* intake, 219* exhaust

Lift: 0.551 intake, 0.549 exhaust

LSA: 117.4

I would think you would need new springs at least using the Z06 cam but I'm sure there are guys here on the forum that could tell you for sure.

I wouldn't put a Z06 cam in a stock 5.3L. I have a mild cam 206/212 115LSA. If you have a daily driver, I would stick in that range.

EDIT: One thing I suggest for folks to do, is call the cam companies and ask what they suggest for the desires you want them to meet. They will have the best suggestions for you.

k well its my town truck so to speak as i have another truck for work. i have a book by will handzel called something like "how to build high-performance ls1"-maybe your familiar with it and they do the z06 swap ina a basically stock truck other than most the bolt ons i already have and they had really good results i thought. its just that i can get one for a price i could afford and thats why i was wondering. what brand is your cam? you tell a noticable difference in power? how bout mpg?
