Oh Crap! Never Seen This Before.

So I was on the interstate in the rain. I had my wipers on high and after a minute I noticed the pass side wasn't going all the way down. I figured I would just look at it when I got home. Well I didn't make it home. The wipers kept getting closer and closer to each other even at slower speeds. I decided it was time to get off the interstate and just as I was exiting it happened, the wipers overlaped resulting in the drivers side wiper being torn off. After I got stopped (under a bank drive through) I found the pass side wiper would move on the stud. I pulled the whole arm off and noticed splines on the stud but none on the wiper arm itself. Should there be splines on the arm or just the stud? I tightened it back down and it seems to be working but if it's not right I want to fix it before it leaves me stranded again? Any ideas? Thanks.

There should be splines on the arm too...however, they're designed to self-destruct if required, thus preventing damage to the gear on the wiper-motor.

Sounds like it's time for a new wiper arm, and blades of course.

Thanks. I kinda figured there should be splines on the arm aswell. I did get lucky since I had just bought wipers two days ago so they were in the back ready to install. Anyone happen to have a part number for the passenger side wiper arm for a 2004 1500?

the arm are made of a soft metal the press on and the wiper stud from the motor actually press the splines. I dont have the part number off hand . I had to replace my wifes arms as she didnt scrape the ice off and it stripped out beyond repair. new one had no splines. the black mark on you windshield is how you align them.oh and the arm is about $30
