05 sierra z71 crew 5.3, hit 100000 kms, service 4x4 light came on. Is this gm's way of getting you into the dealer to check it or is there a problem. Any ideas?

How can i check it, I know the dealer can for a few hundred dollars. How much does part cost?

The switch is a common problem. Fortunately, it can be found for around $60 and takes all of 2-3 minutes to replace.

 

The trim piece around the dash can be pulled off at the clips, then remove the two screws that hold the switch in place. Pull the wire connector off, connect the new switch, re-install, and snap the dash trim back on.
