2005 Gmc Sierra W/ 20" Rims. Replace With 16"?

Bought a 2005 Sierra with 20" rims that came factory installed, 6 lugs. The specs on the drive door show they are original. Would like to swap the rims & tires for 16" standard OEM GMC's. I was told by a tire dealer that any 2005+ Sierra would not be compatible with the standard 16" OEM rims. Is this true. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Anything from 99-up will work on your truck. Same 6 lug on 5.5" centers. As long as they are 16" or 17" wheels

You'll also might want to recalibrate the speedometer for the different size tires. When I went from the stock 17" to the OE 20" I had to get speedo re-done.

Yep,Unless its a Hybrid or AWD (Denali or SS) 16's will not fit up front.

I'm a bit surprised that's the case. In 99, they increased the brake sizes significantly to fix a poor reputation for short brake life of the earlier models. My 99 GMT800 2500 clearly has much larger brakes than a 1500 of the same era, yet has 16" wheels. My 99 went to 150,000 before I gave up and changed the front pads and they weren't close to worn out. I would not have guessed that even my 2008 GMT900 1500 had brakes anywhere near as big as my old 99 2500.

Not a fan of how the 20" handle off pavement. Current tires are at the end of there life and want to change to something more suitable for my uses. That and I feel as though I should be listening to hip hop with rims that bigs . No offense to hip hop/R&B fans.
