last week my trans went out, stripped sun shell, had it rebuilt and installed it today. I filled transmission and transfer case and ran it while still on jack stands. took for test drive and i have no speedometer and will not shift out of first gear, i also have a abs light and check eng oil level on display, i did look over all wire harnesses to see if any thing got hit on the install. I pulled off the speed sensor and so far that checked ok for now. i gave up for the night and will look it over again tomorrow. any advice i can get here will be a great help, thanks for your time

The ABS would want the speed sensor signal, so that is a speed sensor thing.

If you know which connector is for which, I would remove the VSS connector and clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner.

And same for the connector to the transmission fluid level sensor.

Look closely at the ends these plug into with a flashlight and mirror if needed to see the other ends are clean and look ok.

Then plug them back in and be sure they are snug.

Also check *all* fuses. How to check fuses...

If the above does not work, you would need a factory service manual set and would need to follow the troubleshooting sections for testing the VSS sensor and the transmission fluid level sensor, but from further back in the wiring to verify if there was a problem with the wiring, connectors, or sensors. Or if there was a problem elsewhere.

well, i cleaned all the plugs and even got a new speed sensor and they all 3 checked good on the meter and with spinning the wheel. got signal up to the plug next to the fuse panel but i am not sure if it is getting to the computer or not. i have a buddy that will bring his scan tool home from work monday which will tell me what is really happening and we will see what his says. the scanner i have is just a basic one for getting codes which the truck has no codes with my scan tool, i hope for the best but right now i am thinking it might be the brain, i did have power off it ( neg cable ) before i tore the trans out and it sat for 6 days that way, and i had no problems before the trans went out. i did clean and reset the oil level plug and that problem went away so now i just have the no speedo and abs light. i did not drive it today but have it up on jack stands and with it running in gear no speed shows on it. i am stumped for now and will hit it again after work tomorrow, as i am forced to drive my dads doge dakota for a few more days.. :D

Oh the humanity! :D

There is "programming" in the various computers as to what type transmission, etc. I would not think you would lose that programming by disconnecting the battery?

But might keep that in mind - maybe need to have a GM dealer reprogram it for its settings????
