Im looking at getting a ATV, ive been looking at the new Grizzly 700 with power steering, 4x4...everything....I'm new to the scene, would just be used in old fields around my house, and trail riding....Would like some good information or real life stories on different brands and models?

I have a Grizzly 450 and it's a pretty good starter quad, but if you really want something that will rip and burn stock, I'd look at a Can-Am Outlander 800, a buddy has one and I love riding that thing...I have a Raptor 700r sport squad (Yamaha) and that Outlander will keep up with me in the woods even though it's over twice the weight.

Yeah my friend just bought a outlander 800, I hopped on it this weekend, that thing was powerful...thanks for the info

I like the Polaris Sportsman. Big power, mean look, American-made. It's set up well for trails, mud, hauling, hunting, whatever you want to do with it.

I have a 07 Grizzly 700 With Power Steering And Special Edition i bought it in 07 for $8900 and i love it.. my parents have a outlander 800 and a renegade 800 and they squeak and rattle and run hot and ride like crap i would take the grizzly anyday over those.. sure they go fast but thats gets old after your back hurts and your sore every time you ride..

here is a couple pics of mine

I have 2100 miles and not a single problem but i also bought the 4yr extended warranty so it should start having issues right around 2011 when the warranty runs out lol

The griz is a great machine. Check out the Polaris XP's also. It is said that even the non power steering Sportsman XP steers just as easy as the Grizzly power steering. The accessories from Polaris are pretty nice also. The only downfall of the Griz is the power. It's good, but not comparable to the other big bores (Outty 800, Polaris 850, Brute Force 750, Arctic Cat 950).

For brand new, it's hard to beat the Polaris XP 850. Great for trails (power, suspension, trail manners) and a decent price. The 2010's are being announced next week.

I've heard good things about the power steering on the Grizz but never ridden on one. I bought a 06 750 Brute Force before there was power steering.

I'm a big guy and I wanted a bike with some snap in the throttle. Coming from Honda, the Kawasaki was like a sports car even though it was almost 200lbs heavier than the Rubicon it replaced.

I use it for mud and trail riding. I found the suspension lacking for agressive trail riding up at Forest Hill so I replaced the springs/shocks with Elkas all around. So now I have the best of all worlds. It rides like a Polaris but has the Brute's power.

I'd go test drive a few. Most dealerships are set up to allow you to ride the bikes around a small course or a nearby open area. But be careful...you may end up taking one home with you. :seeya:

Another recommendation for the Can-Am Outlander 800 here. I bought a new one last winter and absolutely love it! Won't buy anything else, but at the same time, don't have anything against the other names out there.

Whatever you choose, have fun with it! It'll be hard not too!

The biggest bang for your buck would be an Arctic cat, great ATv's for not allot of money, keep in mind there resale value isn't very high either. Then it would be a toss up between the Can-am or Kawasaki, if you go with a Sportsman get the extended warranty and sell it before the warranty is up. Honda is Honda, butt who cares, they don't have anything that great

+1 for the Outlander 800R. I bought 1 at the end of May, and my dad bought the 800R Max at the same time. Great machine, powerful and comfortable. I would have bought the Grizzly if I didn't stop by the Can-Am dealer. Yami makes a great bike, I have ridden a Kodiak since new in '02 with no problems other than regular maintenance. Bottom line is get something that you feel comfortable on and suits what you are looking to do.

the guys i ride with only have 400's so I went with a Honda Rubicon. it's not in the same class as the ones mentioned here, but it does anything and everything i have ever asked it to. love the transmission! i looked at the big bore's but couldn't come close to affording one. i did like the King Quad's and the new XP's though. never was a fan of Polaris untol they released these. looked at a Yamaha Grizzly 700 with everything on it, but it was just too high($$). you could get a Brute 750 with the v-twin for eaqual to less money. maybe it was just that paticular Yamaha dealer i went to that had the high prices.

We have quite a few atv's in the family. 2 08 Grizzly's, 08 CanAm Renegade 800, 09 Canam 800r Outlander Max LTD, 09 Honda Rancher 420PG EPS and IRS, 08 Honda 700xx. The Grizzly are a decent machine but they don't like to start in the cold. They also have an efi issue where they tend to stall all the time when you stop and start again. We have over 10k on these machines and the issue never went away from new. Yamaha won't acknowledge at all, but their mechanics told us it's a major issue. Another thing with the Grizzly is they're flat out dangerous on stock tires. They lean and roll like no other. With the twitchy and no trail feel you tend to way oversteer with them. I have 14k on my Gade with no issues at all. Same goes for the Outty. The Rancher was just bought for the wife and it's an awesomw all around machine for a new person to atving. Has power steering, irs, gps, efi, It's a midsize bike so it handles very well. It has auto and manual shift. The 700xx is a sportbike with IRS. It flat out hauls ass and isn't for beginners. We have been Yamaha lovers for a long time and we'll be trading them for CanAms very shortly. They have dual power steering so you can select the amount of feel you want. The new Max Ltd is air ride for 2010.

If you must get the "baddest" out there (there are plenty of smaller and, IMO, more capable ATVs out there), then I highly suggest looking into a Kawasaki Brute Force 750. Japanese quality with plenty of performance to back it up. I'd personally take the Grizzly 700, though. Although it's not the fastest, IMO it's the most capable and trail-worthy. Can-Am and Arctic Cat are good brands, but I don't think you'll get quite the same build quality with them (I'd take Arctic Cat, first).

No offense to you Polaris fans, but they're just junk in my book. Just about every one I've seen/been on feels cheap and rattles like no tomorrow, and they were just a few years old (as compared to my 22 year old Honda FourTrax 300, which has NO odd noises). Nowadays, most all top-of-the-line quads come with independent suspension all the way around and superior CVT systems (which are way more boring than actually shifting), so those are no longer a buying points for Polaris. They also weigh WAY more than most comparable quads, which has absolutely no positives. I honestly can't see any reason to choose a Polaris over a different brand.

Anyway, I guess that turned more into a rant, but best of luck finding a quad. Go to dealers and test ride/fit them and see which one you like most.
