Your 1st Pickup Purchase...

Think back on the first pickup that you had to pay hard earned money for.  What did you get and why did you purchase the one you did?

Me?  First one was my 2000 GMC.  Hated Dodge so I didnt even look at them, didn't like the the looks of the Ford, so that left me with Chevy/GMC.  Did look at the Toyota Tundra but $$$ seemed high and it didnt seem like a true full size pickup.   Didnt do a lot of investigating prior to purchasing and bought the one I did because it was simply the best looking and equiped 2000 at any of the 10 or so dealerships I went to/called.

The other contributing factor was that I always thought the GMC's were "real" pickups meant for work and that it would last a long time.....

My first pu was a Dodgubishi Ram 50 (Mitsubishi made them for Dodge).  I had been a sports car guy, but came to the point in my life where I wanted to get off the street and out in the boonies away from everyone.  It was an '87 I bought it in '91 w/ only 25K on it.  Had a cheapo plastic cap and bed liner, but that truck had autopilot!  Not that I condone partying and driving, but that truck got me home without me knowing it more than once!  She ran great up until @ 125 K when she started getting EXTREMELY tempermental when it was damp.  Just would not start.  Would turn over, but never fire.  Got rid of it and got an S-10 Blazer to accomodate my married life to be, and now I've got an '01 Z71.  Gotta love it!

My first pickup was a 1988 S-10 Reg cab/ Short bed/ 4x4/ 4.3L/ Automatic...  it was pretty well loaded.

I bought it off the showroom floor and it was "sharp".  It was white with charcoal interior and the stripes along the side that went from dark on the top to light on the bottom...  I'm sure you've seen them before (4-5 stripes about 1 1/2" wide for each stripe...  mine were black on top and varying shades of grey as you went down)

My first one was a 1992 Izuzu 4X4 standard cab.  It had a v6 that weighed more than the truck itself, and a 5 speed manual.  Man I cound spin the tires into every gear in the rain.  Learned how to power brake with a 5 speed on that on too!  31's make a #### of a lot of noise and smoke!  LOL

I think my first pick-up (this is really going to date me) was a 1955 Chev. My Dad had it and gave it to me after highschool. It would be a collector if I had it now. The one thing I remember most about it was it had "super low". Man that truck could wind.

1962 Chevy shortbed fleetside.

235 I6, three on the floor(converted from column). It was about 8 different colors due to the bondo, primer, and replaced body panels.

Mine was my black '91 Silverado 2wd, regular cab, short bed.  It had 16 miles on it when I got it.  I've always liked Chevrolets better than anything else, so that was the biggest factor.  I had it narrowed down to the one i got and a similar one in Catalina Blue Metallic, but that black was too sweet looking to pass up.

'82 Mazda B2000 Deluxe

Ended up with it when my dad and I swapped vehicles.  I had a '74 Ford Pinto and he had the truck and a Cadillac Eldorado with a 500 ci engine (can't remember the year).  Gave me a choice on which one the swap for.  It was hard deciding!

My 1st P/U was also the the 1st vehicle I bought brand spanking new... a 1984 Toyota xcab 4x4, charcoal gray, chrome all around, with a cap (for the dog in the back).

Unfortunately I rolled it on a back road coming home late with a date.  She had to play "Tank Commander" to get out.  You know, step into the steering wheel, then push the door up then open, and finally climb up and out.  Can I show a girl a good time or what!

1993 F-150 back in fall of 1993.  Had it since.  I've owned a couple of trucks along with it. Even one Chevy, which technically I can't claim since my name wasn't on the title.

I plan to own quite a few trucks in the future, and YES several will be GM.

1st truck- '84 Nissan 4x4 extended cab, 4 speed 4 banger.  I needed 4WD, and it had been a mechanics that he gave lots of TLC to.  It's been through 3 different owners over the last several years, but it's still around town  If it hadn't been for the 4 cylinder, I'd probably have kept it longer if not still-
