8.1 340hp 330hp ?

I asked a qeusetion about the suburban/yukon 2500 not having an allison behind the 8.1 and everyone answered that i didnt fit, But some said that the 8.1 was detuned for the 4l8oe or 4l85e. Can someone please help me its a 2004 gmc yukon xl 2500 if this is the case how much hp do i have. Also if it was detuned can i get a tune made to bring it back were it should be. thanks

I may be wrong, but it was my understanding that the 4L80E was upgraded to handle the HP & TQ of the 8.1L engine and giving it a 4L85E designation. The 4L85E was only put behind the 8.1L in the Suburban/Yukon XL's.

I don't know if it was detuned, but the 2004 specifications at http://media.gm.com/division/2004_prodinfo...ukon/index.html list the power at 320.

Interesting information. The 6.0L HP increase but so did the RPM it was measured at: 4400 to 5200. A bit of cheating there.

The 8.1 burb had the 4L80E in it in 01-02, then the 4L85E came out in 2003.

Found out today theres a light duty 8.1 and a med duty 8.1, Im thinking the med duty went in topkicks and kodiak trucks. but im still unsure of the hp #s in either. does anyone know what kind of power the 8.1,s are making
