Transfer Case Leak

What is the best way to find a leak in a transfer case. I have a leak in my T-case and oil was on everything cant really pin down where its coming from. What is the most common leak on them.. I have a 95 GMC 1500 with a 5.7 Automatic.

You can clean it really well and then look for the leak.

 

Or you can clean it and add a dye that will aide you in locating it

 

Check all seals. There has been a problem with a hole being worn in the case by moving parts also

Where does that hole typically show up at?

on the rear half but just sprayit down with brake clnr and then go for a quick drive after you top up the level,or have a pro diagnose it

Search "pump rub" and see if you have a leak caused by the oil pump rubbing thru the case.

I have dealt with this and your options are replace the rear case half and use a case saver while it is open. Or you could use some JB Weld for a quick fix, may or may not last.

No pump rub in a NV241. Probably a seal or else it's leaking between the flanges.
