carneyman Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Figured I would start posting some pics of the farm, and didn't want to completely take over sandman's thread, so here we go. Up in the North-west Texas Panhandle, we own about 3800 acres. Plenty of room to go out and do pretty much whatever. What we farm with: Out of the 6 vehicles currently at the house, only one isn't a GM. Its a F*rd.
carneyman Posted May 20, 2009 Author Posted May 20, 2009 Where we park 'em: House garage Now this is a shop! Where we use em:
carneyman Posted May 20, 2009 Author Posted May 20, 2009 The homestead: Watermelon, cantaloupe, and locust tree garden vegetable garden Backyard porch Solar heated floor FTW!
carneyman Posted May 20, 2009 Author Posted May 20, 2009 <<<-- This guy is really jealous! Ha, thanks! Its really nice here once you get passed the wind and flat land and dry spells. Wide open spaces, actually being able to see the stars at night, and quite a bit of diverse country. We've got places where you can still find tons of arrow heads, caves that have been blackened by many a campfires, and wildlife galore. Its awesome.
Jnk Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I'm jealous too. I get so tired of the city. If I had the opportunity to live out in the sticks I would. Especially in the greatest state of the union. Texas FTMFW!
pennzoil29 Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I miss the country. I spent my pre teen years living on a horse farm with my grandparents. Nice pix Eric.
wlvrn1215 Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Nothin' runs like a Deere! Nice spread ya got there man. Ive only got 6.5 acres but its nice to have land now a days with no one around thats for sure.
Z71kris Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I wish I had just 1/2 acre, alas I have about a 1/8th, I stink..nice digs
bell_man Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I have 3.5 acres and a nice house about 40 miles south of Atlanta with a lake next door and I would give it away for the chance to live on a farm in the Midwest. Man I am so jealous.
Draenor Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Very nice. I wish I had some of that. I dont do farming, but have some wild mustangs that would love to run in all of that. Mending fences whould be the only thing to suck out there.
rvsahs Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Like the versatility of that 8420...nice spray tank attachments. What is your typical cropping mix between dryland and under the pivot? How many pivots? Close to Dumas or Delhart? Been pretty dry this spring? Any livestock? I'm in ext farm mgt at OSU so always ask this these types of questions...

The 8420 got new saddle tanks last year, plus an Outback nav system a few years ago, so planting and spraying go by pretty quickly now. Most is irrigated, with about 75% corn and the rest wheat. About half the dryland gets planted to either wheat or some maize a year. We've got 16 1/4 mile and one 1/2 mile sprinkler. Been dry enough, but the dryland wheat looks surprisingly good. They are predicting some rain this weekend, so I spent the day planting 3 corners to grass. We keep around 45-50 cows and 3 bulls year round, sometimes with a few hundred head of calves.
