2.7 Turbo 4 Fan Club
amxguy1970 replied to ShamrockShooter's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I don't think you are following how the resale calculation is working. You are getting more of the 2.7 savings back, you saved $1,400 and versus the 5.3 and they are only docking you $1,100 versus the 5.3 which was $1,400 more. So the 5.3 isn't showing any docking of the 5.3 but only $1,100 on the 2.7, so it is actually $300 better in resale than the 5.3. Now if it showed +$1,700 when inputting the 5.3 and the $1,100 was a subtraction for the 2.7 the difference would be $2,800 ($1,100 + $1,700) but that is not the case you are saying. When they work out resale they start at a baseline and add and subtract based on options from a particular trim level, if it isn't adding for the 5.3 then that is the baseline motor they are using (probably because it is the volume seller). Either way there isn't a penalty getting the 2.7 when it comes time to trade in and a $1,000 out of $30k isn't much to worry about or should drive concern as you are saving that at the pump and in upfront costs, financing and insurance. Nope, no one has ever put one on, want to be the first? Just to be sure let me search and see but I am thinking not. Just a few found when searching. Chances are if you are thinking it then it has been asked already and the answer is out there... Tyler Just

There is no issue with lifter failure, no more than other brands have had a turbo failure or timing chain. No, running a disabler is not necessary and won't save you. Chances are high you won't have any issues, don't let the voices of a few on here scare you on the millions of those engines running around with no issues... BTW, search, there are tons of threads out there asking the same question. There are a few worry warts that will say it is needed to make the engine last but the millions of hours and miles of testing GM did says otherwise and they know how to build an engine, I would trust them. So did you replace the factory headlights with factory LED headlights and bulbs? Edit, I see you did. Congrats on doing it right, though they look a little high as they are in the mirror of that taller jeep. So many people just throw in LED's in a reflector housing and blind everyone on the road it is annoying at best and just dangerous for certain people. One company I saw came out with a bulb that is close to acting like a factory halogen bulb and mostly gets rid of the blinding scatter, hopefully more follow suit but I don't have high hopes many will. Nice job! Tyler

Are you sure there wasn't an option that was not checked? Fully loaded is a bold statement to make with all the options on these trucks... Tyler -
Tons of people have done it, if you search around there are countless threads of people having it installed before leaving the dealer or adding it later as they like the idea of not having to deal with warranty issues. There are pros and cons to each, your best bet is to read up on the other threads and get their opinions and make your own decision on what fits best. Tyler

That is a lot of "custom" mods. Are those painted stock bumpers? Is that a bolt on grill you purchased? Does the truck sit in a garage? Mods don't add value, especially when you paint stuff as that shrinks your audience because it is now one person's special style. I would figure about 30 tops, there is an abundance of trucks out there with excellent deals on new (why wouldn't someone spend 10k more and get a brand new well equipped 6.2?) as well as tons of used trucks out there. I have a buddy that is trying to sell his modded Duramax, he is asking 10k more than a nice stock one. It isn't moving and sites are messaging him about being way too high and to adjust his price. Take the 30 trade in and that will take it off the financing of the new truck, you will save on taxes and payments/interest. Financially speaking if you still owe 22k on a 6 year old truck getting in to a newer larger one probably isn't the best idea unless it is just flat out needed to tow a heavier load. Tyler

You do understand how limited the sales will be for the Bronco right, especially after the hype dies down. Look at the Gladiator, less than a year later and they have to throw a bunch of money on the hood to move them as they aren't selling. It is a niche vehicle, the current Blazer will out sell the over seas version, the Bronco and any other off road oriented version people say they want but won't buy or actually use; they will all easily be out sold when people realize how much better everyday the current Blazer is compared to a truck version. And lets be honest, the percentage of people that actually have any actual use for the added capabilities is in the low single digit percent at best. What makes better business sense, building something for 95% of the people or 5%? I am going to guess your needs fall in the 95% group as well. Watching an overland expedition episode the other night they interviewed a TRD engineer who said they engineer their trucks for that 5%-10% of people who take it off road, that is why they are so much worse than the competition on road. The only reason their sales are so high with an inferior product is people believe they are the same reliable over built vehicle from the 80's, in reality they have slightly above average reliability that most of the manufacturers have equaled or nearly caught up to with much fresher product lines that out perform them in regular driving duties. So no, as much as I like that idea I know it won't sell here, especially a manual version which will cause it to be cancelled in a few years and be an added expense that could have been put forth to improving or building something else. Back seats not comfortable at all
amxguy1970 replied to bdsilverado's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
No doubt subjective. We took a 10 hour one way trip to New Mexico over the summer with another couple in my 2014 Crew Cab. We rotated driving so I sat in the back for about 5 hours as did they. We were all very happy with the comfort level. Plenty of room for my 6'5 frame to stretch out and put my leg on my knee. Also plenty of air moving back there for West Texas desert heat, had to ask them to turn it AC down a little. Seats are different then they used to be, no longer super soft like a lazy boy but they have to instead break in. This makes them more durable in the long run. I will say the Volvo S90 and late model Altima with the Zero gravity seats are two of my favorites but these Silverado seats are nice once broken in. I have been in a 2019 Silverado and they felt a little hard just like mine when new (my passenger seats feels firmer than my drivers) but have little doubt they won't break in over time and be nice for most people, though everyone is different. After Workout with cloth interior
amxguy1970 replied to Jheyt's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I always use a seat cover when I workout for after (or any beach/swimming activities, lake days or any dirty activity). Leather just like cloth can get stained and smell if enough sweat and wet things are put on it. I bought a good wet resistant seat cover for $30 that is soft on one side and non slip and water proof on the other. Ditto with the fiances car and I move them from car to car when needed based on activity. Tyler -

LED's in a halogen housing I am guessing? On coming traffic just hates you... Try replacing them with the correct housings so they work better and you aren't blinding others. I will say though the Stamped Chevrolet in the grill is growing on me, though I still prefer the bowtie. Tyler -
I guess so, people don't want to take responsibility for their own doings. They bought the feature, they hit the button and now they want someone else to pay for their mistake? People drive with the tail gate down often, no need for a light telling them on their cross country journey the tailgate is down because someone hits it by accident on occasion, just be more careful and strike it up as a lesson learned... This also applies to the little tailgate on the multipro tailgate and hitches, don't do it and be more aware next time. F150 owners are having the same issue from hitting it by accident to electrical issues opening it. The auto lock feature on tailgates is nice, the soft open feature is good to, but remote opening/closing is utterly useless. Tyler

Thanks for that, I needed a laugh to start the morning! People will believe anything on the internet and around here any type of problem they immediately take aim at AFM. Transmission problems, AFM, AC went out, AFM, axle failure, AFM, power seat switch, must be AFM. People for some reason are against saving fuel. This isn't the same AFM that people heard troubles with during the first go around in the mid 2000's. Oil consumption issues and lifter failures are mostly a thing of the past except for some rogue issues. With the new DFM having 16 lifters as opposed to 8 with AFM those who are against must be throwing a fit... Tyler

Anyone else regret buying a Chevy?
amxguy1970 replied to MyWay's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
It is an expectation and a real one for most but there are some that don't get to experience it. These are mechanical machines put together by people and robots with thousands of parts, there will be rogue issues. The price paid certainly doesn't depict anyone to have anymore or less of an expectation. Should a corolla owner expect less because they paid less? Should Bentley not have service department as they always work without error? Tyler -

1 quart of oil every 2000 miles
amxguy1970 replied to Mikeeeeeee's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
Some oil burn off isn't out of the norm and it isn't just GM. BMW, Mercedes, Ferrari, Porsche all have acceptable oil consumption levels, it is a liquid in a hot engine and even the best oils such as Super Tech cannot strive off oil burn off when finding a way past mechanical parts. If it falls in their acceptable levels there won't be much you can do other than check it and top it off, could be any number of things causing it. The LS1 one of the most revered and reliable performance engines was known for oil consumption and it would still last 100's of thousands of miles while getting beat on and many time sprayed or boosted. I would no worry about it and just check it. For what it is worth I had a coworker that had excessive oil consumption with Amsoil, when he switched to Liberty Gold the consumption stopped. Different engines can like different oils... Tyler -

At first glance I was thinking where are the wheels? Thinking it was on those transport steelies at first... Tyler -
My question is how is the overall ride quality riding on 26’s? Not good... And what problems if any have you experienced with 26 inch wheels as far as blowouts, dents, or suspension problems? All of that. Much heavier than smaller wheels, easier to dent and cause a blow out. Look at 22's and how often you seen an issue with those (not all the time but often enough) so multiply that by a much larger percentile. The more detailed the better. How much more detail so you want? Go big, ride suffers, suspension wear occurs and possible rim/tire failures. Not much more detail can be said. Good luck Tyler

You have done the measurements and seen both, not sure what other information you are looking for. Your measurments should tell you if the rails are wider apart or if the length is different unless you can't read a tape measure? Seems you could be telling us the difference and if it will work. Try it and see. Worse comes to it you are out $300 and it doesn't fit or you sell it and out maybe $100 or it works with little or no adjustments. If it were me I would buy the new cover and sell it in two years and re-coop half the cost as they will still be building them and someone will want it with how many of these they make. I bought mine used from someone just like you, leasing... Tyler

It isn't a separate system like the SUV's, the rear vents are fairly useless as it fully depends on what the front is doing. Everyone was complaining about not having them (rear vents) in the previous gens and in reality they make the HVAC system less efficient as it either cools down the heat or warms up the cold air before getting to the back, it is more a placebo effect. Not having a separate blower means the air coming out is just trickling out, not helping much, it is the same in any brand that tries to use the front system for rear vents. The best you can do is manually turn on the floor vent and crank it up some as there are rear vents under the seats (should be still as there always were in previous gens under the front seats), that should help send more heat to the rear or point the two center vents towards the back, close off the rear console vents and turn that up. In the summer that is what works best for cooling. I rode in the back of my dark truck in July in west Texas with the two center vents pointed in the rear of my K2 and had to ask to turn down the air as it was getting cold. Should work the same way with blowing the heat to the back. Good luck, that is some brutally cold air. Tyler

US vs Mexico Build Quality
amxguy1970 replied to OkieMedic's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, there is no difference. GM (or any manufacturer) wouldn't have one plant supply a completely different quality product than another from different locations. They want them to be indistinguishable regardless of production location. Tons of threads already on this same exact subject, read those, but they do regular inspections of product from both places and I promise there is no difference. Those that say there is just have some type of gotta buy american value in them and that is all that is driving it. For me, I would rather keep my costs down than paying UAW build prices for the same skilled worker... Tyler -
20 inch wheels vs 22 in wheels
amxguy1970 replied to gmcsierra71's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Same tire, one on a 20 and one on a 22, the 22 will ride a little harsher (hard to distinguish but it will, each person is different), it will be more susceptible to pot hole damage, it will be heavier which negatively affects acceleration and mpg (metal is heavier than rubber), it will respond to steering responses better so handling will be slightly improved but it will be more expensive in most cases. Going from a 22 to 18 is a much more drastic difference in ride. Straight smooth highway they will all ride the same, it is broken pavement that you will notice a difference. It is effectively like adding 5-10 lbs of air in your tires with the reduction in sidewall absorption. Some think larger looks better, I am in the other camp where prefer the look of some sidewall on my trucks along with the benefits that come with it... Tyler -
Anything moved from center hub outside of stock will add wear on the wheel bearing. The weight and forces and being pushed out further rather than being equally distributed on the bearing. The further you go the more it will wear, it just depends on how much you want to go. A small 1/4 inch spacer will wear more than stock but much less than a 1.5 inch spacer and so forth. Same logic applies to levels, a 1 inch level will wear more than stock but not nearly as much as a 2.5 inch level. I found a great diagram a while ago that visually showed what happens to the wheel bearing as you move hub but I can't find it, if I do I will put it in here. Spacers are a cheap way of getting the wheels pushed out and can cause issues. If you are using the truck for any towing, hauling or off roading I would avoid them unless it is just for stance on a street truck then it should be ok for a while. Wheel adapters are a different story but the same song on the wheel bearing. Tyler

He wasn't wrong, you go on any forum and try to play something off as higher end or different model and you will get called out for it. Cobra emblems on a base mustang, SS decals on a V6 camaro or FX4 stickers on a 2wd it will be called out. On forums you just have to have tough skin and if not tread lightly... Tyler
