  1. Takes about 11 -13 miles, or about 10 minutes... It does not tell you when it does a regen. If it happens on the highway you may not notice, unless you are watching a fuel economy screen (like the last 25 mile page) If you happen to come to a stop during regen it may be idling a little faster. Smell generally only occurs during first few regens. Presumably a '21 is beyond that stage. There have been some trucks that had exhaust leaks. If you're smelling diesel exhaust take it in. Miles between regens depends on how hard it is working. Harder work generally results in higher exhaust temps and also more miles between regens. Could be less than 200 miles or more than 600. If a regen is interrupted (like arriving at destination) it will generally 'resume' next trip. If it was near completion, it may decide that it was 'close enough' for this regen. None of your questions were about DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) questions -- the were DPF (diesel particulate questions) Common misunderstanding that DEF is used for regeneration -- but it is not. Regeneration uses extra fuel, injected directly into the exhaust system to heat the DPF to incinerate the collected soot. DEF is used whenever the engine is running. It is injected with a DEF injector. DEF is used in a chemical process to reduce the NOx in the exhaust stream. (NOx is not the black soot that is associated with diesels) DEF usage will be about 2% of fuel -- so for every 100 gallons of fuel it will use about 2 gallons of DEF. The DEF gauge is very misleading -- don't use it as a method to estimate your miles per gallon of DEF. The DEF system will give level warnings as it gets low. If it ever gets to empty, it will allow the truck to go another 500 miles before it starts the first speed limit. Probably going to need fuel by then anyway, and almost any place that has diesel also has DEF. (most all on and off-road diesel today us def). Most all auto parts departments or auto parts stores also carry DEF.
  2. There are many threads about this. Sounds like the computer monitoring the electrical system is doing what it's designed to do. There are pages of further up explanation about it in the upfitter docs. Some of that info has been posted several times in other threads.

  4. I wonder if painted/unpainted depends on which plant assembled the truck or if it is related to some option which means the part come from a different vender or some other reason. Certainly appears intentional.
  5. When parking, I've never left the wiper control in any position except off. No sweep a startup, same as @repairman54 indicated. I'd hate to have the wiper sliding across any dust/dirt/debris with the windshield dry, so I'm not gonna try it with the control in 'intermittent'. Seems curious that they would have changed the programming...
  6. I leave the liners in all year. Carpeted mats that came with it are in a pile with the carpet mats for several previous trucks.
  7. Or have them installed under the underseat storage.
  8. What year is the truck. 2020+ L5P has 2 belts, like the diagram posted. 2019 and earlier L5P only had one belt. I'd take it and see if they can determine why the belt failed. Gale Banks did a Youtube video comparing between the generations It was posted on gm-trucks https://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/219613-whats-new-with-the-2020-l5p-duramax-watch-gale-banks-explain/?do=findComment&comment=2210996
  9. How tall/wide and how heavy was the trailer? Flat or upgrade one way and downgrade the other? Aero load matters, more than many expect. I get that sometimes we need to run with traffic, speed increases area load, especially with a trailer. The 25mpg fuel economy info page gives last 25, best 25 and instantaneous mpg. Watching it can show impact of wind, driving speeds, running with traffic (drafting) vs running alone, trailer etc.
  10. Despite having (since 1995) 4wd trucks with 4LO, I just put it in 4HI and turn off the traction control in deep snow, sand or mud. Traction control is an assist on hard but slippery surfaces (think about why drag racers want to be 'hooked up' instead of spinning wheels), but traction control WILL get a vehicle stuck in deep material where it is often a must to have the tires spinning to maintain forward movement. Bonus is that 2HI-4HI shift and traction on/off can be done 'on the fly'. No need to stop and mess around in shift into or out of 4Lo shift. I realize there are conditions where Auto is recommended, but I always run either 2HI or 4HI. I only ever use 4LO if in a 'crawling speed' situation and then only if it's going to continue for more than a minute or so. Last time I used 4LO was just to go thru the shifting exercise. Don't think I even bothered to did that in any of the last 4 or 5 trucks. (yes, I use 4HI on them all) I agree that good 4PMSF winter tires will be a much bigger benefit than having 4LO.
  11. For sh%#s and giggles I tested the LKA function on a '23 1500. Found that hands 'off' it takes fewer edge corrections before it warns and demands hands on wheel (compared to the K2's; don't think I ever tested this way on the '21 T1)
  12. First, they are chassis cab, not chassis cap. (as in cab and chassis) GM has all new HD pickup frames for 2020 model year onward. Previous HD frame change was the 2011 model year. GM makes frame information available for upfitters that buy both pickup and chassis cabs (of varying frame length). Not sure if the upfitter info is what you are looking for, but there are many pages to wade thru. There should be load rating information there.
  13. Stripped / cross threaded / loose bolts resulted in some 20 and 21 turbos needing to be replaced. Don't recall there being a rash of posts about this. This was from 2020...might be related. Loose Turbocharger Actuator Bolts October 13, 2020 Some 2020-2021 Silverado and Sierra models equipped with the 3.0L turbocharged Duramax diesel engine (RPO LM2) may exhibit a lack of performance along with DTCs P003A (Turbocharger Boost Control Position Exceeded Learning Limit), P0046 (Turbocharger Boost Control Position Performance), P0299 (Engine Underboost) and/or P0234 (Engine Overboost). If these conditions are found, check for loose bolts on the turbocharger actuator. (Fig. 18) Fig. 18 If any of the three actuator bolts are not fully seated (Fig. 19), the threads may be damaged and the turbocharger should be replaced. The actuator is not available as a service part. If all the bolts are fully seats, continued with the diagnostics outlined in the appropriate Service Information. Fig. 19
  14. Just push the onstar button, they can get the code. They can also arrange the warranty tow.
  15. @Ron Holz Was there supposed to be some text after the quote?
  16. Did use use the roadside assistance (onstar button) to get it to a dealer for service? What did they find? Did you have onstar tell you (and email) the CEL code?
  17. Same method can also be used to re-arrange the (big square app 'buttons' ) app locations on the pages that become hidden when an app is 'running') So infrequently used apps could be moved to the second page. Or later pages if other apps are added/enabled.
  18. Cranks but won't start, or doesn't even crank?
  19. GMAuthority journalists have this story: Here’s How To Reboot Your GM Vehicle’s Infotainment System 19 BY TREY HAWKINS — JUN 1, 2023 It can be difficult to argue that technology doesn’t make our lives more seamless and connected. However, there are few things more infuriating that tech struggles, with vehicle infotainment systems being high on the list of annoyances. With this in mind, Consumer Reports has compiled a list of instructions on how to reset your GM infotainment system. According to a report from CR, the automotive publication reached out to automakers for instructions on how to reset frozen infotainment systems. Afterwards, CR tested these procedures for confirmation. It’s worth noting that not every vehicle sold by every automaker is covered in this report. In total, GM provided instructions on four systems, which includes: Mylink/Intellilink (2014-2016) Press and hold the home and fast-forward buttons for at least 10 seconds. GM Infotainment (2017-2019) Press the Onstar call button, and immediately hang up. GM Infotainment without built-in Google (2019-2023) Turn the vehicle off, and then turn it back on. GM Infotainment with built-in Google (2022+ full-size trucks and SUVs, Cadillac Lyriq, 2023+ midsize trucks) While in “Park”, press and hold the phone hangup button on the steering wheel for 10 seconds. Notably, there are certain circumstances where performing these procedures won’t fix an issue with the infotainment system. If this were to be the case, there are some additional measures that can be taken. “I have seen a phone stop working after the phone performed a software update,” Consumer Reports’ mechanic and master technician Michael Crossen was quoted as saying. “In these cases, you have to wait for a car software update to be available in order to fix it. [In addition,] make sure you can accurately describe the issue, and take video or a picture when the system is failing, especially if the problem is intermittent.” Be sure to subscribe to GM Authority for more GM-related Consumer Reports news, GM technology news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.
