Which running boards???
redwngr replied to INGMWETRUST's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Even though I didn't have a pic, mine is a 'standard' box like TNT's. As shown in the pic, the length behind the rear door means they can be used to help access something sitting in front corner of box. I started buying boards in the '80's. Trucks stock heights were lower, so primary motivation was to reduce / eliminate stone damage. Flat styles do that better than tubes. -
Which running boards???
redwngr replied to INGMWETRUST's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Mine has the same type as reeseb shows in the pic, but mine is a standard box, so the board goes further behind the rear door. Still wheel-to-wheel. Happy with them. I like them better than the rectangular boards that were common on the previous generation. -
Glass coverage would be in the 'comprehensive' portion of the insurance. High deductible for collision and/or liability portions may not apply to the comprehensive section. Check with you agent -- that's the type of question they get paid to answer.

Push Button Start issues
redwngr replied to Scott Courtney's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
As a diagnostic, I would try using the fob start if the button start doesn't work. Both send a signal to the computers, and the computers manage the start routine. This also means it is not necessary to hold the button until it starts. (same is true for newer GM's with a key. 'Bump and release' the key to the start position and computers take over and do the rest. I don't know if it is necessary to be out of the truck when using the fob. As a side note, it is not necessary to hold the button until it starts. If fob and button both don't initiate a start, that is extra info for the repair diagnostics. If the truck has the phone app active, the start request from the app cold also be tried. -
Inventory and ordering lead times
redwngr replied to Rozz522's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
I spent many years in the auto part supplier business -- direct suppliers to the OEM's, including GM. Used to be that all GM plants took a 2 week vacation in the last part of July. During this time the supplier production employees took vacation too. The maintenance and plant engineering types spent the 2 weeks doing maintenance items that were not possible in shorter time periods (including tooling / equpment mods/updates to suit the next model year requiremens. Anyway -- it's possible that Jul8 18 is sop for '23 model. It's also possible that Jul '18 is the start of 'summer shutdown' and the '23 sop is 2 weeks later --Aug 1. Long winded way of saying that since '23 model pickup has very few changes vs the '22.5 (refreshed '22) it would be reasonable to think that the '23's will start late Ju or early Aug. I've been away from the business for a lot of years, but sometimes, somebody that works for a Tier 1 supplier (ie direct to OEM) or at the assembly plant pops into these threads with the info for this year. -
It's too bad they only permit the purchase of 4 at the 'with a truck order' price.

1500HD was built from 2001 thru 2007 They were originally a way to get a crew cab on a 1500 (remember that the 1500 crew/short wasn't introduced until 2004) Here's an article about 1500HD. Todays max tow (NHT) option is not the same thing as 1500HD was. https://gmauthority.com/blog/gm/chevrolet/silverado/chevrolet-silverado-hd-heavy-duty/chevrolet-silverado-1500hd-heavy-duty/

Improved Turning Radius?
redwngr replied to Street Queen's topic in Engines & Drivetrain (V8, Duramax, TurboMax)
Same cab and box size? GM specs for the 2022's shows the lifted trucks a tiny bit larger turning circle than no-lifted, for the same cab and box. (ie same wheelbase) On some configurations it is a tiny bit larger for 20 or 22" wheels -
2020 GMC 3.0 Trans Failure
redwngr replied to TT331FB's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
Operator watching or not, the computer was watching the temps -- and will act/warn as appropriate. -
GM accessories sells different ones for the truck than for the trailers. Some by a second set for the truck if they run 2 sets of wheels/tires. I'd think if one type would work for both truck and trailer, that they wouldn't sell both types. Otoh, you've got my curiosity up. I've got 2 sets of truck wheels with sensors and one set of trailer wheel sensors (that aren't in wheels yet) I should see if I can 'teach' the second set of truck wheels to the trailering app.... Anyway, these pics are from GM Accessories pages: Truck sensor Trailer sensor

3.0 Duramax Delete
redwngr replied to chollister29's topic in Engines & Drivetrain (V8, Duramax, TurboMax)
Yes, there are service folks at dealers that should be in another occupation. There are also some that could be having a bad day. Otoh, there are also lots of owners that should be told to 'back away from the toolbox'. One of my fears when acquiring used vehicles/machines is that it might have been in the hands of one of those owners. Just because they are very good with the appearance care does not mean that are good with mechanical servicing. -
And bedding in brakes... And trans gearing and friction material... And differential gearing... Break-in is best done with varying speeds and varying loads and varying acceleration and deceleration. Towing makes it much more likely that loads will be both higher and steadier. Of course, size and weight of trailer, as well as speeds and distance to travel are all factors to also consider. Break-in recommendation is not just a duramax thing.

Best reason to order a Sunroof

I never use the sunroof. I do use the sliding rear window. -
6.6 Gas operating temperature
redwngr replied to LOREN's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
Don't forget that the computer is monitoring every sensor. (or the sensor wouldn't be installed on the truck....) It will derate if necessary to protect itself. It will notify you if it needs/wants operator assistance. Enjoy the new ride. -
342 vs 373 Real world experience
redwngr replied to nards444's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
Presumably you are looking at a new 2500. The 20+ 6.6 gassers are all 6 speed with 3.73's The 20+ 6.6 diesels are all 10 speed with 3.42's. Yes, you could change them after taking delivery of the truck. Yes, the 6.0 gas used both 4:10's and 3.73's. (availability depending on year and truck trim/version. Yes, the dmax had 3.73's when it used the 5 and 6 speed allisons. There are no optional ratios. The powerbands are MUCH different on the gas vs diesel. At highway speed in top gear, the gasser needs to, and will be, to be turning quicker. L5P LT8 -
Lots and lots and lots of posters reporting odometers way way higher than 7000 miles and not reporting turbo problems. Otoh, there was a notice/bulletin (in 2020 iirc) about loose turbo actuator bolts -- but the related codes do not include the one you are reporting. That bulletin indicated that if the threads were damaged, the turbo needed to be replaced, as actuator was not available separately.

6.2l engine on hold the rest of the year
redwngr replied to Ghostbone311's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
For the RST trim level, the order guide says "Currently not available to order on Double Cab models. Requires 4WD model and (A50) bucket seats. Includes (N10) dual exhaust and (NQH) 2-speed transfer case". Doesn't show as not available on the other Silverado trims it can be ordered for. Doesn't show restrictions on the Sierra's. -
I don't think frame and brakes change with the NHT package. IIRC, the 1500HD's did have their own frame. I wouldn't even think of hooking my 1500 diesel to a trailer and load like you're talking about. My primary reason for 2500's (for the 10 or 12 years I ran them) was also for hauling seed/chem products on a flat deck. Mostly flat 'here' too, at about 850' asl. Despite the bump in trailer rating, NHT adds only a small amount to payload. Otoh, the 3.0 is a great little rig for doing all the other things you are likely doing if the heavier towing is seed/chem....

Ventilated seats, how do they work (ducting etc.) ?
redwngr replied to todd308's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
I can't really answer your question, but when the ventilated seats are turned on on our 21 sierra there is an immediate 'cool' sensation from the dryer air being pushed thru the seat. (assuming the ac has been running for a little bit prior to switching the seats on) We also have a 20 acadia with ventilated seats. Effectiveness of the seat ventilation is also good (and about the same as pickup). I don't notice the airflow comming thru the seats, but definitely feel the cooling sensation that it causes Our Acadia has the auto control on heated and ventilated seats so the functions will come on without needing to operate the buttons. I'd guess that auto feature will come to pickups before long.... For those curious about this function on the Acadia, this is the section from the Acadia manual about the auto function: (It's for while it's running down the road, as opposed to just during start-up like in pickups) Auto Heated and Ventilated Seats If the vehicle is equipped with auto heated or ventilated seats, and the engine is running, this feature will automatically activate the heated or ventilated seats at the level required by the vehicle's interior temperature. The active high, medium, low, or off heated or ventilated seat level will be indicated by the manual heated and ventilated seat buttons on the center stack. Use the manual heated and ventilated seat buttons on the center stack to turn auto heated or ventilated seats off. If the passenger seat is unoccupied, the auto heated or ventilated seats feature will not activate that seat. The auto heated and ventilated seats feature can be programmed to always be enabled when the vehicle is on. If equipped with a heated steering wheel, the auto heated steering wheel activation will follow the heated seat auto activation and the heated wheel indicator will follow the state of the steering wheel heat. -
Dipstick-less Transmissions
redwngr replied to Thomcat's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I figure one of the reasons for 'dipstickless' is that they got tired of damage from owners that ignored / didn't know the correct check method and ended up with damage from the incorrect level. Severe service maintenance schedule is still 45,000 miles for trans oil and filter change. -
What is IOR, IOS and IOT
redwngr replied to rosepaule's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
2021 SLT will have IOS or IOT. IOT is the one with Nav . If you have the rpo code sticker in the glovebox it will be listed. If you have the QR code on the door post it is likely included in the codes there (QR code list isn't as complete as the stickers were) 2021 1500 sierra: IOS Audio system, Premium GMC Infotainment System with 8" diagonal color touch-screen, includes multi-touch display, AM/FM stereo, Bluetooth streaming audio for music and most phones; featuring wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability for compatible phones, advanced voice recognition, in-vehicle apps, personalized profiles for infotainment and vehicle settings. IOT Audio system, Premium GMC Infotainment System with Navigation and 8" diagonal color touch-screen, includes multi-touch display, AM/FM stereo, Bluetooth streaming audio for music and most phones; featuring wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability for compatible phones, advanced voice recognition, in-vehicle apps, personalized profiles for infotainment and vehicle settings. Includes greater memory. EDIT: I overlooked that you have a 2500 -- but the info is the same for 2500 and 1500 -
Dinghy towing instructions depend on the year of the truck. OP's avatar says he has a 2022 Denali HD Yes, the current 2500/3500 OM does call for battery disconnection. Electric parking brake on a keyless access truck is one reason to disconnect the battery? From 2022 2500/3500 OM Dinghy Towing (Two-Wheel-Drive Vehicles and Vehicles with a Single-Speed Transfer Case) Caution If a vehicle with two-wheel drive or a single-speed transfer case is towed with all four wheels on the ground, the drivetrain components could be damaged. The repairs would not be covered by the vehicle warranty. Two-wheel-drive vehicles and vehicles with a single-speed transfer case should not be towed with all four wheels on the ground. Dinghy Towing (Vehicles with a Two-Speed Transfer Case) Only dinghy tow four-wheel-drive vehicles with a two-speed transfer case that have an N (Neutral) and a 4 n (Four-Wheel Drive Low) setting. {Warning Shifting a four-wheel-drive vehicle's transfer case into N (Neutral) can allow the vehicle to move even if the transmission is in P (Park). You or others could be injured. Set the parking brake and use wheel blocks before shifting the transfer case to N (Neutral). To dinghy tow: 1. Position the vehicle being towed behind the tow vehicle, facing forward and on a level surface. 2. Securely attach the vehicle being towed to the tow vehicle. 3. Apply the parking brake and start the engine. 4. Shift the transfer case to N (Neutral). See “Shifting into N (Neutral)” under Four-Wheel Drive 0 240. 5. With the engine running, release the parking brake and verify that the transfer case is in N (Neutral) by shifting the transmission to D (Drive) and then to R (Reverse). There should be no movement while shifting the transmission. 6. Shift the transmission to D (Drive). 7. If equipped with an ignition key, turn the ignition to ACC/ACCESSORY. If equipped with Keyless Access, turn the engine off. Disregard the Shift to P (Park) DIC message. See Ignition Positions (Keyless Access) pg 229 or Ignition Positions (Key Access) pg 227. To avoid death, serious injury, or property damage, before dinghy towing the vehicle, always disconnect and secure the negative battery cable and cover the negative battery post and cable with a non-conductive material. If the battery is left connected or the battery cable contacts the post, the Electric Parking Brake may activate during towing, which could cause a crash. 8. Disconnect the negative (–) battery cable. See “Negative Battery Cable Disconnection” in Battery - North America pg 324. 9. Shift the transmission to P (Park). 10. Move the steering wheel to make sure the steering column is unlocked. 11. If the vehicle has an ignition key, keep it in the towed vehicle in ACC/ACCESSORY to prevent the steering column from locking. If the vehicle is equipped with Keyless Access, keep the RKE transmitter outside of the vehicle and manually lock the doors. Access the vehicle by using the key in the door lock. See Door Locks pg 21. @Weedguy All this info should be in the OM that should have come with the truck. If you didn't get one, or if you prefer to have a electronic copy ( pdf ) they can be downloaded free from GM's websites. Afaik, all the 2020+ HD Denali will always be 4wd and have a 2 speed transfer case suitable for flat (dinghy) towing.

Since no one suggested it, neither. Replace with 22.5 LTZ

Step one is get the programming update done. It was released for the LM2 in Nov 2021. For most it corrects the 'crank/no-start' issue one LM2. Some trucks never did it even without the update. A few have reported still having the issue after the update.
