How bout that fuel mileage? Is it looking good or at least getting better? Have you tried the training mode yet soldier? Left right Left right

I think all of these trucks have the training mode (set your DIC to the 25 range) and start watching it and adjust your driving, you will see very quickly what you need to do to produce good fuel mileage. You just have bad driving habits like most of the people out there on the road. Do your training for 2 weeks and come back and post the results. I got over 20 mpg today in auto 4whl drive mode over a 35 mile drive 50% city in ice and snow in below freezing weather with (2) 10 minute remote starts to boot. This is a CC SB Z71 4x4 5.3 3.42 with 400 lbs of gear in the back on my bedrug under the tonneau cover. Your right foot is out of control man you NEED BASIC training now GIT ON IT SOLDIER. The pic is from a few weeks when roads were clear and no 4whl auto and that does make a difference 23 is pretty good huh???. I did not feel like walking out to the truck to get a pic from today but I glanced at it when I pulled into the driveway earlier just a fudge over 20 mpg..........

2014 Sierra. The above is why I am not doing any electrical mods. It draws electrical gremlins. Like others stated green light on dash is only illuminated when headlights or fog lights are on the green light does not illuminate during normal daytime driving for DRL operation. On Sierras only the lower LED is lighted during the day. Both top and bottom LEDs are on with parking lights or headlights. If I remember to do it I typically turn on my parking lights early or late in the day because I like both LEDs on for DRL. I think that it looks cool or at least i did until I read through this article now I am thinking that I may look like a geezer who forgot to turn off my lights?................... BUMMER....................Sigh I guess I will stop doing that now.

It is a safety feature (I know counterintuitive) that slows the vehicle and makes sure that the operator is aware there is a problem. Anytime you have a misfire or other serious code the computer automatically sends the vehicle into LIMP MODE. They will be able to pull the code and get you fixed up at the dealer. My 2009 fouled a spark plug and did this exact same thing it kinda freaked me out too. That truck was a oil burner and that was the last straw for me. I got mad at my truck and traded for a 2014 Sierra cost me a fortune. I do not recommend that unless you have a lot of extra cash these new ones are horribly expensive. On your 2009 there is a TPS sensor bulletin out there for which you should have received information in the mail on that could be your problem. It is very interesting how a small change in driving habits can affect the fuel mileage tremendously just makes you very conscious of how you are moving your nearly 6000lbs of weight (Your truck with all your stuff in it) around. I still have to punch it now and then just for fun I left some long black streaks this morning out of the car wash sum bich will raise heck with the traction control turned off LOL but it has also been fun to see what I can get out of it as far as mpg.

Trying to remember how to do the setup. I have a Sierra but I think the Silvy is the same. On the steering wheel controls right hand side punch the < button that should open the display on the center of the dash between the tach and speedometer scroll to info and press the center button on the steering wheel right hand cluster this should get you into your selection screen now scroll to the fuel mileage one and once on there you can press the > button to be able to scroll between the 25 50 and 400 ranges.

Loose fuse wow I wonder if I need to check all mine sounds suspicious to me. Repaint on door sounds like they have a little bit of amateur hour at their paint shop facility, the door can be repainted perfectly they do it everyday at the plant on damaged vehicles but they do it with highly skilled people that do this everyday for a living and have top notch equipment not your local britches hanging low hat turned sideways street punk whose best work is done with a spray can.....LOL.. Glad everything worked out for you. I myself would probably never keep the vehicle because every time I went out to start it I would get POed I would simply trade it even if it cost me a bundle just a personal preference and having a low tolerance level I guess..You look like you have a lot of patience and are very kind hearted in your pic so I am guessing you will be OK with the vehicle as is.

I saw that too, I was also wondering if the DIC has an option for the average mph on the lowly SLT or is this Denali only?

I had a 09 that had the 5.3 with the 6 speed it was a good tranny. Probably just need to go ahead and pony up for the 2014??? What color are you going to get my old one was white

Excellent info thanks for posting back. It is pretty well guaranteed that several people have had this problem and complained if they came up with a fix.

Update real world gas mileage 2014 Crew Cab SLT Z71 4x4 5.3 3.42 20in all terrain tires short bed with bed cover installed currently on second tank of nonethanol 87 octane. I haul approx 400 lbs of work tools with me in the bed at all times. Normal commute is about 24 miles one way 75% highway always stay below 70 and watch the lead foot but not holding up traffic. I park outside so a warm up typically of ten minutes is required to clear the windshield I usually just remote start and let it die then start when I get outside I start it with the key and drive off. Strange thing on the DIC meter is that after you really get into it and blow it out for a spell it seems to show much better mileage? Not sure why that is other than maybe it makes the variable valve setting different? Anyway here is what I had today almost ready for my next tank of nonethanol 87 octane. Continuing testing. Weather has warmed here in the last day or two and it does seem to be easier to achieve higher mileage results.

Hey Binny / LeeDowney / bblowen and Ton J was curious as to the build date on your trucks? Also have you made ANY changes to your truck at all like swapping headlights or even changing out for different rear backup bulbs? Involved in any accidents and had repairs made? I have a 12-11-13 build date 2014 Sierra CC SLT Z71 4x4 5.3 3.42 truck that has been practically flawless over the last 3k but I am always on the lookout on these forums as to what to watch out for. I would love to have the brighter headlights/brighter backup bulbs and one of those cool under tailgate led light strips but I am leery of attracting the electrical gremlins!!!!

Beetle what fuel are you using 92 octane or something? I am just starting a test in mine with nonethanol 87 octane that my local store here carries. I am planning on running a few tanks and see what happens. It is quite a bit more expensive so it will have to produce some pretty amazing results for me to continue to buy it! 3.28 versus 3.09 My next experiment will be to use some E85 I keep reading that the E85 produces more HP but gives bad fuel economy. Sounds counterintuitive, you would think that these brilliant GM engineers would have figured out by now how to run these engines on old banana peels etc like the back to the future car haha I joined the Fuelly site I think the silverspaceship is on there maybe also...... only about 1/2 dozen 2014 GM 1500 trucks on there so far.. and some of them do not list out all the options such as engine size gears tire size mods etc so you can compare apples to apples. There big thing seems to be how much highway versus city driving as a percentage still looks like a worthwhile endeavor though.. I have found that by being just a bit more careful with the right foot pressure that these 2014 1500 crew cab z71 4x4 slt 5.3 3.42 gears 20in tire trucks can produce very respectable fuel mileage. I am very happy with mine so far. The attached pic was from a few weeks back I was running 10% ethanol mid grade at the time and was on a business trip so all interstate miles.. And yes I agree with silver the colder the weather the harder it seems to get good mileage these GM engines do not seem to like the cold very much. Might just be the winter fuel mix I do not know.

I think I have it figured out now. GM has developed a updated version of the mood ring (some people on here may not be old enough to know what a mood ring is they can do a google search if needed) and your new 2014 truck senses your mood. If you are a crabby old fart today you get very little V4 , if you are kind to young children and pet the dog instead of kicking it the truck senses that and gives you lots of V4 and better gas mileage. Watch your MOOD swings bichs. LOL

Hey Beetle looks like a good average there. What cab? What engine? What gears? What size tires? Tonneau cover? Speed on highway approx? I have noticed that anything above 70 on the interstate really puts a beating on my trucks mpg. I guess it is like trying to push a brick through the air LOL not a lot of aerodynamics happening with a PU truck.

My 2014 5.3 occasionally has a slight jerk going from V4 back to V8 mainly at low speeds I believe it only happens when the trans also downshifts at the same time but have not really checked that out just yet (now I am curious).. Does not bother me as it is identical to what my 2009 5.3 did (87k miles). I just thought it was NORMAL? I am not sure what their definition of seamless? I know that I can typically feel the 6 spd shifting gears I wonder if a 6spd transmission shift is supposed to be seamless? What was it Bill Clinton said it is according to what your definition of is IS LOL

I thought about the factory tires on my 2014 GMC Sierra Crew Cab SLT Z71 4x4 mght not contribute much to the mileage factor LOL they are the 20" all terrain goodyears. I was running a set of Michelins on my 09 that got a consistent 18.1 mpg over a bunch of miles so I agree the tires could make a difference. Will hopefully be a couple of years before I have to install a new set so going to have to suffer through this I guess. What REALLY hurts my feelings is that I just got back from a business trip to PA The rental car that I drove up there for around 300 miles (dogging it) averaged 39.1 MPG. This truck looks like it is gonna be pushed to get 1/2 that consistently. HOWEVER the comfort level in that little midsize Mazda was not very good. Hmm we do value comfort a lot I guess.

I was studying my New 2014 GMC Sierra and the LED's look so COOL in the daytime that there is no way I want them off but as stated it is a personal preference. If I wanted them off they are off by golly FBI Homeland Security IRS NSA Canadian Mounties Etc be darned

OK boys I have been taking a few short interstate trips around town and have been babying the truck with no jack rabbit takeoffs and no passing slow moving vehicles at WTO as usual. Here is what I have now on fuel mileage. Yes my rear bumper is in danger of being dented when driving like granny but I think this proves that if you drive easy you can achieve very good fuel mileage even on a Crew Cab Z71 4x4 with 5.3 and 3,42 rear axle BAMMMMMMMMMMMMMM [attachment=34119:IMAG0928.jpg and no it is not all down hill LOL just normal driving on interstate in moderate hilly middle TN not exceeding 70 mph most of the time and actually (against my nature) allowing the truck too slow a bit when going up hills. Give it a try and see what you come up with I never really paid it much attention before but putting the display in the 25 mile average setting and watching the effect of how I drive on the average fuel mileage it is quite a learning experience. I call it feathering the gas pedal LOL. I still cannot resist releasing the beast at least every 10 or 12 miles when some arsehole is riding the bumper but still I am getting what I think are impressive results.

what are these updates?? I picked my truck up on Jan 17 and they said they had already done the catching on fire reprogram. Is that one of these updates?
