Shake or Vibration Issues

Document everythink! Also keep a running journal of your events and attempts to have it fixed. Have a transmission shop, pay them.....to diagnose this issue for your records. Contact GM and inform them you still have an issue with your truck, if they do nothing, send a registered letter to them about your concerns again. Then follow your states lemon laws if they refuse to cooperate or attempt to fix your vehical. Be firm, punctuation, and calm keeping notes and documening events. I feel for you, GM is ruining there future, and no one should be treated this way! There is vibration issues with this truck, and it is being dealt with case by case so to protect the trucks image. Keep it together and keep fighting. -

Yes mine does this also, and I have a 1-2-3-4 shift shudder as well. They have not been able to fix it as of yet! Tires have been swaped out and balanced and ruled out as the problem, rear end next and driveline. No fix, and they have no idea too! Very fustrated now and beyond hope. -

My truck still vibrates when it is in v8 mode, no change from v4 to v8 in vibration! Flapper system is a failure for GM, what were they thinking using an exhaust flap valve inline with a carbon burning exhaust system. This is a recipe for disaster! I guess the exhaust system dont rust or becocome soiled with carbon causing it to stick, or vibrate, or fail! My truck still vibrates when it is in v8 mode, no change from v4 to v8 in vibration! Maybe, just maybe temperature of tranny fluid is a factor! Driveshaft internal material moving around could be a factor also. So vibration could be connected to factors that improve and are dynamically changing this is why some say tires helped but vibration came back later. Transmission hydraulics is very precious, and any leaking pumps, shift solenoids, or expansions in metal will change many factors! I have always claimed that the tranny is the culprit here, and sloppy drive trane machining. -

Backup camera stopped working?
2strokesmoke replied to MJFlores's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
Screen should receive signal, that is 12v from backup light from reverse lights. if the radio is not shifting into reverse screen, I would assume your radio is not receiving 12v from reverse, this sounds like a switch, or fuse, or radio died inside. Reverse camera just sends image once reverse light 12v is engauged, I would assume? -

TCM is being updated. That is transmission control module, this is the brains for the transmission. I don't trust what is told to the owner from GM....remember Toyota no hardware/software issue there until the dead were counted by lawyers. -

Shudder, clunk, vibration,1-2-3-4 shift issues, and now unwanted neutral is all signs of lock up torque converter and pump issues. I am still putting my money on this as the main culprit in this ongoing saga. The software update for the unwanted neutral is indeed for the transmission control module, by tweaking the software to demand better lock-up of the torque converter or tweaking the shift pressure to keep it in gear when engine rpm is low and torque demand is high, might be signs that the pump is loosing pressure (leaking internally) or faulty pump. I have compiled all the info here, vibration, at 40-50mph, vibration starting around 70mph, 1-2 shift delay, vibration at idle, changing vibration with head wind and weather temp swings, and now unwanted neutral issue. How is all this related to tires, or suspension! Crack in pump or torque converter, or internal leaks matches these issues. All our current transmission rely on electrical pulse to shift gears now, and pump provides the pressure to engauge and release lock up, and brakes electronically release pressure from pump when applied, some folks here also complained about transmission slow to release when braking? GM knows the truth, and the fix is in the removal of the transmission's internal parts in my humble opinion. -

I have a hunch that the vibration issue we are feeling is indeed related to the shudder 1-2-3-4 shift issue from 2013 2014 TSB pip5175b issued may 2/2014 and the unwanted neutral recall. What I believe is happening is this, stator to pump cover bolts are leaking at gasket causing low pump pressure to torque converter. This low pump pressure causes the 1-2-3-4 shudder and also the " unwanted neutral recall" for some people with more leakage! Torque converter with low pump pressure would indeed cause a vibration at 70mph. Now what GM is doing to fix this is in my own opinion is, change the shift points and triggering engine rpm range to boost the pump pressure without having to remove transmission for a known gasket leak. This is why some folks have this vibration, and most do not. Some say this gets worse as temperature change, headwind, and other factors too. An example of high pressure leak is subtle when contained cause vibration with pumps. Unwanted neutral is happening when the rpms of engine are lower then the pump pressure allowing the torque converter to not engauge at lower shift gears. Example 1-2-3 shifts. This low pressure most definitely has damaged some bearings in the torque converter already. This issued will be corrected in future but for us now it may be only a bandaide fix. I have said from the beginning this is a transmission issue, this vibration and shudder, and now unwanted neutral. Dealers have switched out almost everything under the truck, and vibration is still there. If gm changes shift points and tweaks rpm range from engine, shifts will be more crisp and noticeable as this is the cheapest fix without removing tranny. If you want your vibration issues resolved demand to have the pip5175B test and this will confirm my suspicions. Just something to think about....why do these trucks have 2 different a arms installed. Some trucks have steel a arms, and some have aluminum ones. My truck has steel a arms, and has the vibration issue also. Anybody have aluminum a arms and vibration issues. -

I'm betting they still shake, but at least you will have better tires. Don't sell old tires until your shake, vibration issue is resolved with dealer. They will use the excuse these are not factory tires so we will not be checking them until you remove and replace with original tires and rims. Others have been there with the dealer already. quote name="BR-TEXAS" post="1469680" timestamp="1403542071"] GM still trying to get an answer for that. Should not be easy/cheap... I have all type of vibrations (accelerating from a standing 40mph, 70mph...) It's a GMC SLT CrewCab 5.3 3.42 4x4 Z71. 20" GY SRA Drove a loaner that had just 15miles. 80% better regarding vibration, not smooth as glass but you can live with that. But mine also was ok, but was getting worse after 2.000miles... what makes me thinking that this loaner will have the same problem in a couple of months. And the loaner was a complete different animal: DoubleCab, V6, 4x2, no-Z71 20" Continental... The v6 has the 6 speed transmission also, this is another point, this problem is across the board on all models with this tranny. Folks have tried different tires different rear ends different driveshafts, different exhausts.....this is an issue with this tranny! Anyone out there know or has a tranny tech as a friend who can lend a hand with knowledge of this transmission. -

The 2500 series share the same 6 speed trannys? Is there any differences except gearing lower for more torque. I have talked with some 2500 owners as well 1500 owners and most of the people I have spoken with have no issues with vibrations. This all points to quality control issues, machining, assembly, and fastener torque control! Stacking tolerances and possibly a bad machined tranny, is the monster here. -

2strokesmoke replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
If I took a driveshaft and build it within tolerance, but at the high end of specs. Next I build a rear end at the high end of tolerance levels, and add in tires that vibrate, add in transmission vibration and leaf springs that allow movement. I end up with stacking tolerance that causes a nightmare! I have been saying all a long that GM has a problem with the torque converter, or pump feeding it. This TSB I mentioned in my last post here talks about a gasket that may be leaking..... this in my opinion must be causing a pressure loss, causing a shudder in all gears, more noticeable at lower speeds. This is my opinion only and the severity of the vibration changes with the temperature of the transmission. Cooler transmission temps means different metal expansions, and tranny oil viscosity changes too. Machining may be off causing pressure loss in critical oil passages that feed torque converter or shift valves....or? I hope people with lower speed vibration take this info/tranny issue and have it checked. -

I have been checking this whole damn truck over checking everything. I am going the legal system, to get them to fix, or new truck. Tires are a piece of the puzzle here, but not everyones issues. Sloppy drive shaft issues clunking and some vibration some issues too. Now here is the kicker for most people who have the shudder at speeds below 50mph, or hard shifts from first to second and cluncking delayed shift.....whining noise and a slipping feeling when shifting. see transmission thread. I am now convinced this is my issue as well as a lot of others with vibration and clunk 50mph and less. Tsb #pip5175B: slip or shudder during a launch first, second, third, or fourth gear delayed engaugement into drive or a launch or bump into gear....most noticeable from first to second....it will feel like you are pushed or bumped forward when the tranny shifts, it feels like it is held back longer, them released lauching you slightly forward. this is what I thing is going on with the vibration issues everyone is having after tires have been ruled out. This is most noticeable at speed 35-55 mph. I have not proved this, but this feels like my issue, after all else has been checked. I hope this helps someone....temperature of tranny oil changes how this vibration feels also, at night it was more, during warm temp it got better....there is a seal that is leaking I am told http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/157944-transmissions-issuesproblems/page-6?do=findComment&comment=1460394 -

Let me just say this, there is enough people out there with this issue that GM must have an idea of what is going on! Are they not doing anything about this? Or is it because it will be too costly to fix all these trucks now, and it is only a vibration right. Everybody you need to report it to your local government agency like NHTSA with concerns that new vehicle s should not vibrate, and it is not safe! Also report these tires, they are not right with the sidewalls deforming this soon. Speak up people, and enough of us they will have to investigate our concerns folks. Then we may learn the truth about these trucks. I had enough lies, I have started legal actions to correct my vibration! I also reported my concerns over safety with this truck too. -
That is just bulls##t man! The dealer can find time to maintenance, but not try to fix the real issues.

Very well then you should do a test to prove the truth. If you know the speed your truck starts to vibrate at, drive it in tow mode and see if it vibrates still. This removes the v4 change out of the equation. Next put your oem rims and tires back on and record this vibration you have. I put my cruise control on and filmed my instrument panel and vehical, next I shut my truck off while driving in gear...just turn off the ignition! See if vibration is still there, if it is the engine and engine mount can be eliminated as being the problem. That only leaves tires, transmission, driveline system, steering, and suspension. Thats when I would return to the dealer with my know facts, demanding it to be fixed, and if they can not solve it, then open a ticket with GM to have Iit looked at by their engineers for a solution. Keep a log book of your visits and people you spoke to, keeping all the work preformed on your truck with a receipt from dealer. This is how my legal advise, recommended me to deal with it until they refuse to do any more, then the paper trail will hold up later showing your attempt to have it repaired could not be solved. I still believe it is a torque converter, and driveshaft problem for most of these vibration issues. just my 2 cents worth, good luck. -

You should report the tire's issues to your National Road Highway Safety Or what ever it is called. Report it they will look into it whether the tires are safe. These tires are not truck tires, and my truck is All Terrain model. I would not tow anything with these car tires on my truck. Report them, as possibly unsafe and the manufacturing issues wavevy sidewalls! I reported mine as unsafe quality tires, unsafe to tow anything like your tv advertisement shows pulling heavy trailers. Yeah right with these tires, will only get us killed! -

What is your build date of your truck, just wondering about my exhaust flap, no noise as of yet!Thxs -
I don't hold very much hope for software to fix more likely a hardware issue. They are just trying to find what is called an acceptable repair in my opinion. There will be a different part number with the fixes inside the infotainment unit in time, but most of us will not be so fortunate though. just my opinion!
