New highly functional head units coming out
SWOYER replied to SWOYER's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Looks good. I'll be doing my system once everything gets here. Pioneer DMH-WT8600NEX JL audio RD900/5 Amp Focal Flax Evo 3-Way up front Focal Flax Evo Coaxial in the rear JL Audio Console Stealthbox Full Roadkill / Soundskins dampening / Speaker surrounds Decided to do a wireless charger in the center console while I'm working on it and debating katzkins leather seats, the oem leather covers are pretty terrible and have already torn on the drivers side. -
New highly functional head units coming out
SWOYER replied to SWOYER's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Well that would depend heavily on your preferences, but for me on a non-bose setup aiming towards the pioneer ..it's the following. The screen is significantly better in terms of clarity and the hardware itself is better giving you more options and snappier menus. It has pre-outs which eliminates the need for getting a loc when running to an upgrades systems. Instant updates, so you'll always have the newest AA/Carplay, the day it comes out. AA/Carplay are wireless or you can plug them in. - Hooking up back seat screens would be much easier if that's important to you Stock headunit has maybe 10/15 watts of power, this is probably closer to 20w RMS +/- . Has amazon alexa if your into that sort of thing Should sound better out of the box than the stock unit Mainly for me it comes down to the price of upgrading everything to a OEM kinda crappy unit to having something that live updates, eases future updates and has google maps, which is better than any navigation system. -

Agreed. -
Maybe about two years ago I got really interested in upgrading my truck to have AA/Carplay, the only real options were to upgrade the factory unit or go with an Alpine Restyle which was a boatload of money and didn't really look that great. So recently I've been investigating pulling all the factory electronics and buying new ones to get upgraded etc. Unfortunately, this requires that I additionally pull my denali cluster and buy a 2016 one to keep all of the functionality. Now, I am very picky about the styling and function vs money of these types of upgrades. I was almost ready to pull the trigger, even though upwards of $1500 for parts and programming for an otherwise stock setup from 2016 is pretty ridiculous. This is no way a slander to the programming guys, chris at WAMS was more than fair to me when I had an issue with a crappy eBay cluster I got a hold of and had to get a brand new one. And I realize for alot of people they want the factory setup. However, some new head units are making their way to the market and I believe I'm going to use this opportunity to expand and build out my system entirely. Just wanted to share these units as they've come out, might be a good option for some folks. Most of these are 9 or 10" screens, which seem to fit perfectly into the dash area based on the pics. The key features I was looking for; Wireless AA/Carplay, Bigger screen, Pre-outs, retains all factory controls, HMDI input Pioneer DMH-WT8600NEX 10.1" https://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/NEX/DMH-WT8600NEX This unit comes in a 9" also, DMH-WT7600NEX. Alpine Halo Series - New 11" and 9" These are a little more dull but still seem to fit well based on the pictures. Kenwood/JVC DMX1057XR, DNR1007XR, DMX907S, DNX997XR and DDX9907XR Little to no information on these yet, but they do have HD screens which is interesting. Now, all of these units are floating in design and will take a little bit of work to get to install into the dash, I think there's some plastic that needs to be trimmed based on my reading but it's not a big deal. Because they're fully adjustable in almost all directions you can get it right where you want it before you tighten it all down. As shown in the pictures i found for the alpine, you can get it to look pretty factory without much modification. Additionally. using a maestro RR unit you can tie into the trucks wiring without disrupting anything and retain OEM functionality, while adding a full featured head unit. Additionally with HDMI in you can do a roku stick or 12volt apple tv, giving you all the functionality for those services through your phone or an internet hotspot. I'm placing an order for the pioneer unit and i'm probably going to pull everything from the truck and do a full install - speakers, amps etc. I'm still doing my research but I think that's what I'm going to do and just wanted to share.

I just got my 6112's on this weekend and the 5160's out back, replaced the front sway with a hellwig. Didn't have time to add the rear sway. I'll say that I think that my thoughts of what it would be got to be much much more than it actually is, and although I'm not dissatisfied I was a little disappointed at first. My first order through battleborn/MRT I had to cancel because their website says they have them in stock, when they don't. Then I ordered from 4WP which had a competitive price, but then they were backordered. Which was fine, this is a bilstein issue in this case so I'll just wait. Unfortunately, they shipped me an F150 kit, so no go there. Then i just overnighted the right kit from summit and returned the one to 4wp. I installed mine on the highest setting, 1.85' lift in the front and the truck sits level now wheel well to wheel well. It also fixed my slight rubbing issue on the felt liner from my plus size stock wheel tires. The ride is now very much more controlled, low speed bumps are significantly reduced and the truck doesn't lean or nose dive like it used to. At higher speeds over bumps it still has that shimmy where you feel like the truck is stepping out on you, albeit slightly reduced. For the money, I think that it was a good investment, if I had to do it again I'd pony up the cash for the kings.

CTS-V 6 Piston Brembo Brake retrofit?
SWOYER replied to CCWray's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Given the choice, I'd buy wildwoods over this kit. Thos look like cheap Chinese style calipers. But, for those that like the support from the factory it's probably ok. They go for 1500 on ebay regularly. There's a Cadillac kit up. -
CTS-V 6 Piston Brembo Brake retrofit?
SWOYER replied to CCWray's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Yea but two comments. Wilwood is on a shit ton of racecars so that's factually incorrect. Its a good kit with alot of good reviews. If your trying to compare that kit to REAL brembo's, kit for kit, the Brembo is superior. Take off brembos from the CTS-V are good quality calipers. The GM kit is like the crappiest Brembo kit available with a shitty design. In for CTSV calipers.. I need a bracket! The calipers are cheap and are nice and I want them -

What have you done to your K2 today?
SWOYER replied to block8head's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Never posted Pictures of my truck, so here's a few. Recently did the Denali Cluster, Amp powersteps, hellwig bars and Falken Wildpeak AT3's. Waiting on the 6112's to come in. -
This is not what is being discussed here, the caliper is bigger, which is more clamping force and therefor will stop better. And bigger rotors, combined with more force, will stop shorter. For some, a total waste, for some this is a good cheap alternative to a BBK.

Flint Will Be Next Up For HD Truck Investments
SWOYER replied to Gorehamj's topic in Article & Review Archive (Pre-2019)
Throwup. -
I agree which is why I originally ordered there, and mostly the price. However, at least with 4WP, i know the warranty will be backed up. Who knows if the people with two websites that are identical and who didn't respond to my order until a week after I canceled through my CC, two weeks after the original order. Not my type of business.
-
Yea I can read. I meant is it a few washers or machined out, a few washers i'd consider bolt on.
-
What kind of spacers are required or is a direct bolt on?
-
Thanks for the write up, waiting for mine to come in. I also just picked up hellwig bars F/R and new Falken Wildpeak AT3's. I'd be a little cautious about ordering from BattleBorn/MRT. After a bad experience, I went with 4WP and I got an actual reply to my email (wow so difficult!) and they let me know actual ship dates. The peace of mind, customer service and warranty are worth the extra little bit of $$$.

6 Speed Transmission Clunk Downshift
SWOYER replied to JacobC1983's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
In for clues. Tune helped. I saw online greasing the spline on the transfer case. -
Phil, please excuse me for going slightly off the thread, but if the escalade lid fits, it looks to be bigger, could help some of the older note users with your harness.

Same, I dont have wireless charging but I'd like to add it and I assume I need the harness to do so, unless there's a plug in there. But I doubt they'd include it, that would be too easy.

HID Headlight Bulbs / HID Projector Retrofit
SWOYER replied to MotoMedic's topic in Modifications & Accessories
They are bright but it's important to understand that everything depends on the correct housing (or projector) for the bulb you are using. If you have stock headlights and projectors, nothing will light the road better than a good halogen bulb. If you upgrade your projector, it should be according to what bulb you plan to use. Pretty much the only way to get a good LED setup is to buy the OEM LED headlights. If you just put LED bulbs in there the light will be all over the place and not focused on the road, and maybe it "looks cool" to some people, but its a huge waste of money and your money is likely best spent on a quality conversion. Also, based on everything available, HID's are the hands down best I have seen and they provide the most light directed at the road evenly. There was no question when I was comparing, and for the price for a conversion kit... there's no reason not to do it.- 3,363 replies
