Auto stop/start quandary
aseibel replied to Acpantera's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
My wife's 21 Acadia Denali does not have any option to turn it off. Most of the time it doesn't bother me as I don't drive in a lot of traffic with lights due to where we live. If it shuts off at a stoplight, it turns on quick enough not to be an inconvenience. It does turn back on after a certain time. Definitely using the AC keeps the engine on more. The worst situation I endure is a 4-way stop where I have to wait for someone else to clear the intersection, I may be sitting still for 2 seconds but the engine shuts off in that time, then re-starts. Its teaching me to roll through the stop sign rather than hard-stop it. -
Here ya go... The 2022 Silverado full reveal!
aseibel replied to Firehawk99's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
"committed to giving every customer a truck at a price point to meet their needs" LOL But hey, we now have a lifted Colorado! -
Some people park far enough away from their desk that the fob doesn't reach. Ya know, back when people went into an office to work. In the winter, you need more than 2 minutes for it to warm up. Anyway, I had the app for 5 year for free, I probably used the app to remote start 20 times in that span. So it's not enough to justify paying what they are asking, but it would be a nice feature to have nonetheless.

Pretty sure my wife would not have driven it home if it was the wrong color. At this specific point in time, the dealer probably doesn't care at all. But it would be interesting if you can prove there was an error made. If salesman entered wrong color when ordering, not much can be expected now unless out of the goodness of their heart. But you have already found out they don't seem to care about you now that they have your money. And unless you want to wait for a new one to show up, what are you even looking for? You can try to talk to a manger and mention your ability to leave negative reviews on all of their socials and see if he has any interest in helping you out. I'm in this to hear the outcome.

What are your thoughts about tonneau cover?
aseibel replied to Bjorg's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
I have a truxedo lopro and I wouldn't consider anything else. I like to be able to fully open my bed, and use it often that way. The soft roll-up keeps it dry enough to carry the family stuff on vacation without it being in my way. If I was all that concerned about "weather proof" I'd consider a camper shell and carpeted interior like my old man. But guess which truck gets loaded with deer each November? Its all dependent on how you use it. -
To answer the question, no. I might be interested in a "reasonable" 1 time fee for use of the remote app for the life of my vehicle. Or maybe if I can bundle my wife's acadia + my truck on 1 plan I'd consider it. But paying $15 a month per vehicle just to use the app?? can anyone who does this confirm if you have multiple GM vehicles, can you access both of them for $15 or is it per car? I'd pay about $5 per month total for 2 cars, for what I used the app for when I had it. So they are only 6x higher than my price point. I know you can bargain with them for like $9/month trial period, then they raise it up again. We have signed up for a month of unlimited data a couple times when taking family trips in the past. But with current cell phone plans and where we drive, my wife just uses her phone as a hotspot now as it gets better service. Onstar is basically useless to me. Go google Onstar complaints and read all the stories about it being impossible to cancel, they just keep charging you. Don't give them a credit card number.

Last winter I finished a 275 SF room in the basement for my wife to use as a home office and exercise room. We liked the LifeProof LVP enough to use it down there as well, with a thin underlayment to gain a little bit of padding/insulation over the concrete. My wife took the kids to visit her family for a weekend and I spent Friday afternoon and most of Saturday & Sunday alone just installing the floor and putting in the baseboards. You can score them with a utility knife and snap it. So the ends aren't terrible. But the long walls that need to be cut along the entire length are a pain. If I had to do the entire living space like you are thinking, I would try to remove the furniture and pull the baseboards before the crew arrived. Depending what your existing flooring is, removing that would save considerable labor time as well. I'd save the skilled labor for installing the new floor. But I can still deal with getting up off the floor all day with only a 6-pack as my pain reliever.

Donstar, We also chose the Lifeproof LVP from Home depot. I wanted distressed and character. The Mrs. wanted light grains. We managed to agree on the Trail Oak color. I love the way it looks. But one warning, if you drag a chair (or anything really) across it and there is any sand on the floor, it scratches pretty easily. I have never used a broom and dustpan so frequently in my life. But I want to keep this floor looking nice for a while. I wouldn't recommend for people with large dogs. Kids are even questionable. But it sure looks and feels nice.

Thoughts on Android Auto or CarPlay
aseibel replied to HiggySTL's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
I use AA exclusively for google maps and nothing else. I love the ability to use that when I'm in unfamiliar territory, or for the kids to see the countdown time to our destination. When my wife gets near it automatically opens up CP and then if I want it connected to my phone its a pain to switch. But that's a minor problem most of the time. Only when we are both in the car on long trips and it tries to switch phones. I'm not super techy, so I don't know how to tailor it to my wants. I guess I'm just glad I get to use a good mapping app without paying GM for updates. -
New Member Seeking Advice
aseibel replied to ccoon21's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Do you really need bigger/wider tires for where you drive to the boat launch or deer camp? If you are really concerned with fuel economy, I suggest you look for some good tires that are closer to OEM size. The 5.3 with more gears should suffice for everything you need it to do. ( I have a 6 speed 3.42) If you want the 6.2 just for the "fun factor", that is purely up to you and not a financially driven decision. -
What brand did you try? I have a Truxedo Lopro and don't experience any of the issues you talk about when opening and closing mine by myself. I installed it myself in maybe 1 hour. I would never want any other folding cover that blocks more of my bed when open.

cool, that is new to me. I guess one nice thing about a ford is having a completely flat floor in the back seat....
-
I've been waiting 5 years to get underseat storage but it would be useless for me with the car seats installed. I like your idea, but not sure how well they would stay in place if you didn't secure them. Right now I have a couple small tool boxes stuffed under the seat and they don't slide much because I have the Husky full floor liner, which is fairly slip resistant. I'm following to see what you come up with.

Yep. Onstar is a crock. Its a joint venture between GM and some tech companies to try to dig deeper in our pockets with a subscription service. Too bad they don't offer anything my smartphone can't already do. I agree that it would be nice to use the smartphone app, but not at $15 a month. I maybe used it 15 times in the 5 years I had the free service. I'd pay a one time fee to use it for the life of the vehicle, maybe. But no way I'm giving them my credit card #.

I look at extended warranties as optional insurance. My wife really wanted to feel "safe". I would have walked out laughing at the salesman who offered it to me. But the boss would rather pay 2,000 or whatever it was now, to hopefully avoid some much higher bill later. Maybe we come out ahead. More likely we just donated 2,000 to the dealership. similar to car insurance. I have never made a claim beyond a windshield replacement. Yet I continue to donate money to American Family Insurance every month. I guess it makes me happy to know that if some uninsured numbskull t-bones me, I won't be financially burdened. But that's all it is. You are betting money now to (hopefully) save some in the future. come back in 10 years and let us know how it worked out. If it didn't work out in the dealers favor more often than not, they wouldn't be selling them.

Best Package to Order - Canada
aseibel replied to TJL72's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Well then, the GMC Denali is definitely for you. Its covered in chrome plated bells and whistles. (After all, its your money not mine.) When shopping for my wife's recent new Acadia, she demanded adaptive cruise control. So that limited our choices. I could do without all the other nanny systems. I suggest you research and figure out what "package" you will actually be happy with and start from there. Every half ton GM makes is suitable for daily driving and occasional towing. -
GM Multipro Tailgate Problem
aseibel replied to Garry Dagenais's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
This problem has been known and discussed on this forum for over 2 years. I have copied some links below. There are hitches available that drop below, or stow out of the way for people who do not want to take the hitch out when not in use. It is your choice if you'd rather remove the hitch to use the tailgate feature or not. -
The "road noise" as you call it likely is due to the tires. Your modification has changed the way the tires interface with the road surface. You didn't say if they are OEM or oversize. Oversize tires are just plain louder. How many miles on the current tires? how often do you rotate them? are they worn unevenly at all? Getting an alignment and making sure your air pressure is correct will make a big difference.

Anyone unhappy with WT trim?
aseibel replied to nick112288's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
It will save you headaches to just get the model with the features you want already on it. Even if it comes with extra stuff you don't need. How much time are you willing to spend adding standard LT features to a WT? I was willing to look at WT trim when I bought mine. I don't need carpet floors, in fact I have covered all the carpet with Husky liners anyway. Never had remote start before, figured I didn't need it. I do enjoy that feature somewhat. But the boss demanded heated seats so we had to go to the LT1 with All-Star package. Which turned out to be on about 50% of what my dealer had on the lot anyway. I still don't use the heated seats, but I'm pretty happy I got what I did. I think the lack of features on WT aren't worth the small savings unless you really only use it for work and not a family hauler. -
It should still work with a pre-owned vehicle. I got one to work. When my wife bought a new one this winter it automatically showed up in my account, I didn't even have to do anything. As others have said, set up your account online first. If you bought a used truck, you get what, 1 month free trial? Don't get too attached to the app unless you plan on paying $15 a month for remote features, or more if you actually want to use onstar. They don't offer anything your phone can't already do for free. my opinion, you're not missing out on much. I'd just move on.

It's shocking what thrives in basically waste water run-off from the streets. I don't know how much salt gets in there from winter ice melting, but it is definitely present in the water. Due to the elongated shape of my lot, I have over 100' of frontage, which is the most of all my neighbors. Last year when the quarantine started I spent about 1 hour a day cutting down the willowy brush that had sprouted along the banks so I have a clear view from my deck. If the other neighbors let that stuff keep growing, it will block their houses from view and it will fell like I have a private pond. Some mornings it will be a pair of geese. Yesterday I saw a single swan out there, but opening the patio door to get a photo scared him off. It is excellent as an ice rink in the winter months. I shared snow clearing duties with a couple other dads and we had good skating for nearly 6 weeks this year.

The water is a detention pond only. It never fully drains since its deeper than the ground water level. So the frogs and a pair of ducks call it home.
