  1. I think those are The Retrofit Source (TRS) fogs. https://www.theretrofitsource.com/assemblies/led-fog-lights/gmc-morimoto-xb-led.html Stock fogs are 500 lumens each. TRS fogs are 1200 lumens each.
  2. I went on a 2800 mile road trip LA to Coer de Alene Idaho and back in 5 days, in my 2014 fitted with the 2016-17 LED headlights, to pick up a new bird dog. I did a bit of night driving with these LED factory lights. I’m pleased with the side visibility. They seem even better than the 14 halogen projectors, with a TRS HID kit I had for 3 years, for side lighting. The forward distance lighting isn’t quite as good as HID in the halogen projector. But it’s still good, and much better than the original all stock 2014-15 halogen projectors. My opinion of the Rigid Industries SAE fog lights is mixed. In heavy snowfall, the fogs made it harder to see. The sharp cutoff of the headlights made the fog lights not only unnecessary, but obsolete. The SAE fogs do add some side visibility when I don’t want to burn the paint off the back of a vehicle in front of me with my Baja Designs driving lights.
  3. With stock suspension, you need to get a 35 out further than stock so it will clear the sway bar at the front on a hard turn. Before you buy wheels and tires, measure the clearances you have with your current wheel/tire setup. The clearances that count are at steering lock. Extrapolate diameter and width and you'll know where the interference areas are. Then you can solve the interference with wheel offset and/or trimming body & wheelwell parts.
  4. Cut the fenders open with a muffler cutter, lose the bumper and spoiler, gut the fenderwells and put deep offset wheels on it. Later, when you get about $5 grand, you can buy the front long travel suspension. Another $2 grand and you can get the fenders and bedsides. A couple more grand and you can get the rear long travel suspension. Maybe a grand for a front bumper, another $1-2 grand for some lights, paint, roll bar, and other miscellaneous. Don't forget the $3k worth of wheels and tires. There's a lot cheaper vehicles to go bangin around in the dirt than converting a 5000 lb fullsize crewcab truck into a dirt buggy. As a bonus feature, you can still drive home in your bone stock truck when something breaks on the toy in the middle of the desert and drive the truck to work Monday morning, just a thought. https://www.ebay.com/sch/Dune-Buggies-Sand-Rails/133220/bn_16581800/i.html
  5. Ryan, That pup is growing like a weed. My wife is making noises about another lab instead of the pointer I've been working on. She misses our old lab. I guess I do too.
  6. Just from my knothole.... if the warranty says xx,xxx miles/x years, that's all they have to honor. The exception is a NHTSA Safety Recall. If they voluntarily provide assistance on other non-safety problems, good on them. They are either doing it for good PR and/or avoiding a class action. These days, there are plenty of low-life, belly crawlin, cheese eatin, lawyers that are searching the internet or advertising on the late-late show for a class to represent in a suit. Corporations with deep pockets like GM have to actively defend and avoid situations where these class actions may pop up their ugly heads. The way those lawyers work is; they gather enough plaintiffs for the class action and threaten the deep pocket corporation, then the corporation offers a settlement that can't come anywhere close to making all the individuals whole, but it's a huge sum because of the shear number of plaintiffs in the class, the lawyer sees a large payday, since the belly crawler gets 1/3rd or more of the settlement, the remainder gets divided among the plaintiffs, and it amounts to a tiny fraction of the financial issue for the individual.
  7. I don't have much affinity toward either the Glock or H&K. I'd keep looking for something else.
  8. They started off fairly quiet for as aggressive as they are. They progressively got louder. I can't use my voice recognition on the highway above about 35mph and my wife can't stand to talk to me over the hands free built in mic. I had a conference call every morning when I was driving to work and they couldn't understand me and complained about the background noise. I had to buy a Blueparrot B450-XT noise cancelling headset to be able to call hands free. The STMAXX hooked up good in the dirt, ok on the pavement. But around the 1/2 or so tread wear, they started to feel out of round. I balance them and it helped but didn't cure it. I just live with it. It's not so bad it shakes the truck badly, but I'm sure the people that have complained about their new trucks vibrating would find it similar. I had a friend that had a couple sets of Coopers with the AT3 carcass. He had similar out of round issues. I'm probably going back to what I know with some Toyos.
  9. I’m going backwards. I just ordered a set of OEM wheels like below. I’ll install them when I decide on new tires. Probably going with a mild tread AT. Something not as noisy as the STMaxx.
  10. I had looked into why the stock air cleaner/intake tube was blamed for approx. 10 hp. Almost everyone puts the blame on the big acoustic resonator. I'm not so sure. There are no "baffles" in the entire air box system. When I looked into flow thru corrugated tubes, I found that the flow is drastically restricted by the corrugations. There are two sections of corrugations in the air box. None of the aftermarket systems have corrugation connector sections. A utility knife and some aftermarket connector tubes might give you the same hp gains.
  11. Dont fret. They already have synthetic engine sounds on some of the exotics.
  12. Just a point for clarity...a recall definition I found on the NHTSA website: ************************************************** What does it mean when a manufacturer initiates a safety recall involving vehicles or items of motor vehicle equipment? A safety recall involving a motor vehicle or an item of motor vehicle equipment can be independently conducted by a manufacturer or ordered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In either case, the manufacturer must file a public report describing the safety-related defect or noncompliance with a Federal motor vehicle safety standard, the involved vehicle/equipment population, the major events that resulted in the recall determination, a description of the remedy, and a schedule for the recall. NHTSA monitors each safety recall to ensure the manufacturers provide owners safe, free, and effective remedies according to the Safety Act and Federal regulations. Manufacturers are obligated to attempt to notify owners of recalled products. For vehicles, that means manufacturers merge their own records of vehicle purchasers with current state vehicle registration information. For equipment, where state registration records do not exist, manufacturers are obligated to notify their distribution chain and known purchasers of the recalled equipment. However, even if you do not receive a notification, if your vehicle, child restraint, or other item of equipment is involved in a safety recall, the manufacturer is obligated to provide a free remedy. ********************************************* I think what some people are asking about is called a "campaign", which is an activity driven by the manufacturer's motives rather than a regulatory driven recall. I don't think a condenser issue would lead to a safety recall.
  13. Too cool for school. I used to to work at Mullen & Company, a small head porting shop in California that had the contract to port all the Direct Connection heads in the mid 70s. I was the machinist and did a lot of Super Stock “cheating” tricks to the 340 heads.
  14. It’s interesting how we’ve all slid into complacency about vehicles being so reliable. We now not only expect nothing to fail on a new vehicle, we demand it. We also think maintenance should be easy, seldom needed, and cheap. I’m as guilty of it as anyone. It seems unrealistic if you’re knowledgeable in any mechanical product field when you think about it. Oh, and we also want every power and technology device invented to be on our vehicles. It’s no small wonder that there isn’t a list of things that don’t work every time you drive.
  15. Maybe, if you were a long time customer of that dealership or they want you to be... You might start a conversation with the salesman that sold you the truck or the sales manager
  16. Flawed or not, higher temps cause the AC system pressures to dramatically go up. The condenser is on the "high side" of the system. At 113F, the pressures would be around 350 psi in the condenser, compared with around 250 psi at 85-90F. AC refrigerants are highly temperature reactive.
  17. I used some methyl alcohol on a thin streak of sap I’ve been meaning to remove for a couple years now. It pulled it off in a few swipes. I used to use turpentine when we had pine trees over our driveway. But I don’t have much other use for it, so I don’t keep any around.
  18. The best action game shooters (IPSC, 3-gun, etc.,) shooters are in good physical condition. Skeet, trap, etc, are a fat bunch. Bullseye match handgun are an old bunch and are an example of adapting the rules to help keep the largely aging/poor vision participants competitive by allowing optics into the rules . Benchrest guys can be a fairly old bunch. Im getting to what many would call older age, my early 60s. Ive always been an avid shooter of rifle, handgun and shotgun sports. I would call myself above average , but not gifted. The gifted shooter has a central nervous system that works faster than the average person. These are the Jerry Miculek, George Digweed, Rob Leatham, and pro athletes from other sports that require exceptional hand-eye coordination. Ive seen a pro baseball player pick up a shotgun and shoot better than most shooters with decades of shooting. These people see and react faster than us regular folk. They see things in slow motion compared to average people. You cant train this. You either have it or not. You can only train what to expect and what to do.
  19. Are you gonna be able to stay within the truck's max weight and the max axle weight?
  20. Sounds like the service manager's boss is a stand up guy.
  21. https://chevroletforum.com/forum/vindecoder.php?vin=2G1FP32G222100760 This one may be a bit better.. https://www.vehiclehistory.com/paging-vin-report-data/specifications.php?vin=2G1FP32G222100760
  22. The idea of home security is to make it secure enough that the burglar is sufficiently discouraged that he moves on to your poor neighbor's house. Let's face it, our homes are not far from sticks and mud. A sledge hammer will gain you entry thru most walls, doors or windows.
  23. If you watch that YouTube showing a guy with a coat hanger opening a garage door in about 15 seconds, you won't worry about someone getting into your alarm equipped truck.
  24. Agreed. And for all practical purposes, it doesn't need to.
