The factory stat is 186 degree....don't waste your money or your time.

DO NOT CHANGE YOUR THERMOSTAT TEMP! It will louse up performance and mileage. Engines are actually happier at high temps. Only problem with higher temps is faster hose problems. Keep an eye on these and you will never have a problem.

The trouble with changing to a 180° is that your ecm is programmed for 195°. So the sensors will be telling the ecm the temp is 180° so it will be operating as if the engine has not fully warmed up. This could affect everything even the transmission and torque converter.

You would want a lower temp t stat if you were getting a tune or using a programmer that would adjust engine parameters for the lower temp t stat. If your truck is going to be stock I would leave it a lone.

+1

mine was redone down to 180F by Justin @ Blackbear so now the engine operates at that temp...that was done with all the other changes to my truck. If you have a stock tune with a lower thermostat, then your truck will run open loop all day long...suffering in the MPGs. A retune down to 180F will allow it to reach 180F and then enter closed loop...

There's no problem with a lower temp thermostat IF you tune the truck to compensate for it. If you aren't programming the ECM to match, you'll have issues.
