Touch Up Paint

Im confused on actual color of my truck. After I purchased it i received a bottle of touch up in the mail. Touched a few spots and it was a lot darker. I checked the code in my glove box and it matches the bottle. I checked this website and im confused as to why they have just color code 15 and WA929L. Is there going to be a difference? The bottle says code 15 wa929l. Any suggestions.

don t know about the color codes but I always find touch up looks darker.

I can explain the two codes...The 15U you see is the RPO sales code that the dealer uses to order the color desired for the vehicle.

The WA929L is the code the body shop will use to order or mix paint if needed.

 

There are times when the sales code will be the same for different colors and the WA# is different.

Actually for 15U there are two different WA#'s.....929L & 231M.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Rich, but to add to that, the U in the RPO code means "upper." On a two-tone vehicle, there would also be a ##L code for the "lower" color.

I never had good experiences with those touch up bottles. Thus I do this to touch up all my cars...

 

I get a can of paint mixed up from my local body shop. I shoot a little into a bottle cap and dab it on with a pointed soft bristle brush. After it dries I follow it up with the same process using clear.

 

The color match will be perfect (even with metallic finishes) and the paint seems to settle well into the scratch/chip.

Can you order the ready mixed paint or do you have to be a body shop? Reason is I want to paint some of the things on my truck and want to do it myself. Door handles, Mirror caps etc.

Body shop is the best bet. I have had them make spray cans and purchased quarts of paint and the colors have been right on. Spray cans are on $35, and a can of clear if $10.
