Rear Park Assist

So I did a search for this, and the results that came up were mainly addressing having your trailer hitch in or your tailgate down--but when I got in my truck to leave work today, (raining, tailgate up, tow hook in) my dash read Parking Assist Off. Then when I push the park assist button, it just flashes and then goes back to being a solid light. When I got home, I played around with it a bit, threw it in reverse---and it started beeping rapidly like I was about to hit something. Put it back in park---still beeping. Wouldn't stop until I cycled the engine again. Still beeping in Drive. Granted, there was some rain on the sensors. Does it sound like faulty sensors? Or just moisture on them? Keep in mind, I've had the truck not quite 2 weeks. Any thoughts? Suggestions?

My 2009 did similar today. I was backing into space in garage at work this morning like I do every day, and when I put it in park it just kept rapidly beeping. I tried disabling the park assist, but this didn't stop it. I shut the truck off and removed the key, and it was still beeping. It finally stopped when I opened the door. Then I restarted the truck, and everything was fine. It worked fine when I backed into garage at home tonight

Note I also had intermittent "Service Rear Parking Assist" message when I couldn't get it to come back on after disabling it for towing.

Haven't been to dealer yet for any of this.

I had a tow hook in the receiver. It's very low profile...sticks out less than a ball would. I highly doubt that's the issue, because I've had that hook in there since the day I drove it off the lot---and it just now started this. It sounds like Gozer and I are in the same boat.

I had a weird thing happen one time with my rear backup assist. The day I bought my trailer actually. I had the hitch put in the receiver and it beep in reverse of course. But it still beeped when I put the truck in park and shut the truck off...it was kinda ****ed actually. But when I started it again the beep stopped and it has been fine ever since. But if there is anything in the vicinity of those sensors they will go off, that's one of the reasons I didn't do dual rear exhaust, because I was afraid they would cause them not to work.

Not always true. I had one of these Bumpershield in for 6 months, no problems. Then all the sudden one day it started to see it...

Haha---so what I'm picking up from all my research is that rear park assist is just a bipolar son'bitch. Guess I'll take the hook out for a bit---sad, because it looks mean.

I thought rain could cause those problems. I couldn't really tell you for sure because I live where it never rains :P

It very well could be the rain. It's only given me problems during those times. It figures---since most times I don't want to roll down the tinted windows to see behind me when I'm backing up in the rain. Funny--because it's rained here in LA (Lower Alabama) everyday for the last 3 weeks. Total disaster when trying to keep the new truck shiny.

I'm don't know if I agree with the idea that rain would cause it. We had a heavy rain recently, to make a long story short, I had to back down a street with water flowing over my rear bumper and the park assist didn't flinch. When I got home and backed into my driveway it responded as it normally does when I get close to the house.

anytime I put any kind of hitch in mine it disables the parking assist. It must have some kind of sensor to detect it so its not going off anytime you are towing anything.

My parking assist goes nuts when it rains or if I have the trailer lights plugged in when I back the boat in. I am going to take it in when I get a chance I will try to post results.
