2500 Needs More Cooling For Trans.

I have a 2004 2500LT Quadrasteer that in order to keep it as tow vehicle,it'll need alot of upgrades.....I currently have a 5" x 11" factory installed trans. oil cooler but in stalled traffic it gets close or above 200 degrees (when towing)

I want to put a Jegs or B&M cooler w/fan sized at 11"x15"x 3 1/2", I noticed next to original trans cooler there's a plugged wire cap....is this for a remote fan hook up that didnt come w/this truck set up? If so maybe I can use this power for remote fan/cooler installation ....wire looks to be maybe 12 gauge...fan on cooler would be pulling 6-8 amps..not sure if wires gauged for that....but what else could this plug be for?

 

Other question is on Chevrolet original equip. does trans cooler have female threads and lines coming in/out have male threads..

 

.had some say just cut lines and slip rubber hose w/hose clamp....but I dont think thats good idea, I may not be sharpest tool in shed but been in shed awhile....any suggestions would be appreciated....JD

On the 1500s the fittings are quick disconnects, no threads. If your is the same, just slip rubber hose over the end of those, tighten the clamps and your done. Many are done this way have never have a problem. I'm sure you'd be better off running your own dedicated, fused line to your fan.

By quick disconnects do you mean something similiar to connections on air compressor hose as you push them together and they come apart?

It has a clip on it that you have to remove. To release the metal cooler line

 

 

Cooler pipe is captured in place by the clip.

Small screwdriver or a tool with a hook on it works too.
