Well my 2001 2500HD with the 6.0 needs exhaust again, right after I bought my truck I put a flowmaster Cat back kit on that lasted a little over a year, then at 90,000 i put on a custom duals with 2 1/2 pipes and a Dual in and out "V" force muffler, the V force was a lot quieter then the Flowmaster, Well not at 118,000 mile les then 3 years later the muffler is gone again Well this time I'm going without a muffler just tailpipes , anyone else done this ??

Also the stupid manifold bolts have broke off my manifolds, Any chance of a recall on this issue ??

You should of went with a SS after market cat back exhuast, this way you don't have to worry about it's short life span.

GM has addressed the manifold bolts breaking off issues, but there is no recall on it. You need to get yourself a set of the revised manifold bolts which came out in late 04. If you have an extended warranty, the fix along with new manifolds will be covered, they are under my warranty plan. Repair shops usually charge a whopping $275 plus per manifold, and labor could add up if they can't get the broken bolts out so easy. Just so you know, the new manifold bolts have this special whitish coating on the threads, this way you know you are getting the revised bolts, not the same old ones. There also is a 50% chance that depending on how long the bolts were broken off, that your manifold could be either warped or possibly cracked. A sign to tell if your manifold is leaking is you'll hear a ruff popping sound, when you first start up the engine. Also the engine will feel sluggish because of the leak.

I have a 2001 2500HD with the 8.1, only about 84K miles (only drive it when I need too - gas is expense) and the dealer replace the exhaust manifold bolds four times since I purchased it. The last time was in 2006 just before it went out of warranty about 74K miles (really glad I purchased the extended warranty). Less than 10K miles later the last set of bolts have snapped again and the exhaust manifolds are leaking.

Does anyone have an idea how to fix this problem so that it does not re-occur?

I just did manifold gaskets and bolts on my 01' 6.0. I did not use gm bolts. Bought my own grade 8 bolts. I did use a two stage factory max torque setting.

The big thing I did was to mill the manifolds. They were warped a bit. I did not have to take off much material. I figured starting with a flat plane would make them last longer.

I assume the warpage was from overtightening and or heat cycling. They are back on now and doing fine. We'll see how long it holds up.
