Question Concerning Bb Tune

Recommended Posts

I'm planning on putting 285/70/17's on my truck and just thought about if I need to have the bigger tires put on before the tune or if I'd be okay putting them on afterwards?

Yeah I'm running the stock 265/70/17's right now because well I paid 30k for them :) and they are perfectly fine. But I was planning on getting bigger tires (285/70/17) and didn't know how much it would affect the tune.

But I guess it does make sense to go ahead and have it already switched over so everything is how it should be from here on out.

The tire size won't really effect the tune. But, the tire size different will throw off the speedometer, MPG calculations, etc. So, it's a good idea to get the computer adjusted for the new tire size when you get the tune done.

You can do it either way. I'm running stock tires and have a BB tune. I'm switching tires soon. It'll change the odometer/speedometer, but shouldn't make any difference in the engine tuning and negligeable difference in the trans control. Once you put the tires on, you can have BB make an adjustment with an exchange TCM.

Or you can wait and do it after the tire switch. There's no real downside either way. 'just depends on how long you're going to be before you get tires. If it's a while, go for the tune now.

Seth, which transmission is in the truck? I'm seeing a 2009 crew-cab, which makes me think it's probably a 6-spd. If that's the case, you can't do a TCM swap, like Chuck is suggesting. The TCM is inside of the 6-spd transmissions. If it's a 4-spd, though, you're in luck. You could do a TCM swap and send the TCM off to BB for retuning.. Of course, you'd need a spare TCM to be able to do that or the truck would be down for a few days, while you wait (since it needs the TCM to control the transmission, so you can drive it).. Since you're even considering the tires in the equation, that makes me think you're kind of close on doing the tires.. If that's the case, I'd just do the tires now (or at least before the tune).. That seems like the easier route, to me.. :)

Yeah its a 6-spd so I couldn't send it off. I'm going to do the tires thats a for sure yes, but since I'm a full-time student in college and I'm paying my truck note, so the upgrades are coming in stages.

I might just borrow a little money from the parents and get the tires before the tune so I can have it done how I want it and not have to worry about getting a re-tune at a later date.
