Can't Shift Into Gear

Recommended Posts

I have a 2001 gmc sierra, today i was installing a new gauge cluster and i had to pull the shift lever down to get the old one out and the new one in. After installing it i went to shift back into park and i noticed it didn't feel right. Then i couldn't start my truck but had everything except crank. I manually pushed the shift rod at the transmission as far forward as i could and now it starts but the shift lever still moves up and down with no resistance and i don't have to press the brake to shift out of park. Also none of my gear indication lights appear except park when i have it all the way up, and i have no reverse lights either.

It sounds like you have a problem with the wiring or shift position module/switch. I would check your linkages to see if some wires got caught up and see if the shift position module/switch a is loose or has moved.
