allg32 Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Hey I'm new to the site and have a couple of questions. I have a 97 GMC I bought brand new, now it has 206k miles, everything still works good but I think my cats are going bad. My CEL keeps going off and tells me it could be the O2 sensors or the EGR valve or catalyst inefficiency (?) its always these three but not all at the same time. Any way my big question can I do away with the cats and go straight duals without causing any problems. I've read some stuff about needing certain amounts of back pressure etc. Also what type exhaust would ya'll recommend. I'm going to start with a CAI and maybe headers from there. Thanks
txab Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 As long as they aren't required under your inspection requirements, you could remove them. You would need to reprogram your ECM to turn off the downstream sensors.
