Codes P0449, P0455

Hi:

The truck has just over 41,000 gentle highway miles on it it and it is giving me the codes P0449 (evap emission conrol system vent viv/sol malf) as well as P0455 (evap emission control sys leak {large}).

The tester I used is OBD II. Is my truck (2006 GMC SIERRA with a 4.3L auto) OBD II? If not, maybe these are not even the right codes.

P0449 came up twice and P0455 came up once when I put the tester on it earlier this evening. I erased the codes and will see what she does in the next few days. I don't have a day off from work for over a week so is it ok to drive it? I started it up to pull it back in the garage and the check engine icon did not come back on.

The complicating matter is that last week "chime" tone came on out of the blue while I was driving and the dash readout said that the gas cap was loose. I know this was not the case since I check it when I refuel. It is garaged when I am home and in a secured parking lot at the only other place I go, which is work.

Where should I look for what problem? I did not see anything that looked like an evap canister and associated plumbing like on my old truck, a 74 Chevy shortbed C-10.

Thanks in advance for any help or hints you can offer,

Vinny

It is ok to drive it with those codes in it. The reason you check engine light came on is because the computer ran a test to see if the fuel tank would hold pressure and it did not. Evap problems are not that easy to fix. Maybe it's time to take to a shop.

The light went on immediately as I left for work this morning. Once I got home and put the computer on it, I got 2 incidents "pending" of the P0449 (evap emission conrol system vent viv/sol malf).

The other code that I had previously, the P0455 (evap emission control sys leak {large}) did NOT appear.

So, maybe this is just a part that needs to be replaced and not a lot of trouble-shooting? If so, does anybody know where this part is and its accessability?

Just sorta fed up by having troubles with a truck this new and low mileage. Got screwed by the dealer on the price of it too.

Oh yeah, and what the &%@!@$% is a honda ad and link doing on this website?

Boy has it been a long day!
