Anyone Have An Extended Warranty Company They Recommend?

I want to get an extended warranty for my '05 Sierra. I took a look at US Fidelis but they have an F rating and over 1200 complaints in the last three years. Found only a couple in the BB that have a good rating, but I'd like to hear from someone who has one and has had service done under the warranty....good or bad!

bought a a third party warranty (First extended) through a dealer when I bought my Dodge brand new 10 years ago. Dumb move for me because it required that I get that warranty work done at the dealer I purchased the truck from which was 35 miles away from me. If I was over 50 miles away there would be no problem going anywhere :dunno: I tried taking it to my local dealer and First extended turned them down for doing the work.

Being a Dodge product, it more than paid for itself though :sigh:

I'd save the money at this point and forget the warranty with a 4 year old truck.

I look at it this way. It's an insurance policy and the insurance company isn't in business to loose money. They have it figured out that, on average, people will loose money on this deal. It will be enough lost to make up for the ones that don't loose with enough left over to make them a nice profit. It is very telling that you see a constant stream of commercials for these plans on TV. That tells me that it is not only profitable, but highly profitable. They are playing on your fears. Take the money you would have spent and put it into your own rainy day account. Then you can use it for anything that comes up in your life, truck repairs, medical bills, a new furnace, whatever.

I kinda agree with dansk. They charge a pretty penny for those warranties but 1 major issue and it pays for itself, so it's a toss up. You may never have an issue and it may be the worse truck you've ever owned.

GM often offers extended warranties, and I'd consider that route if your serious about getting one.

Good luck

Keep in mind that when something breaks you might not get much input into what to do about it....you might think you need a new transmission and the warranty company might rebuild yours if it won't cost them as much....They'd rather try to save money and you'd rather fix something right the first time so you don't have to go back.

OK...guess I shoulda clarified a few things before I asked. I am not so worried about the motor....it seems flawless right now, but I got my reasons for wanting a warranty....

1. The truck is four years old....but it has 102k on the clock....runs perfectly now, but see #2 & #3 below...

2. I have horrible truck karma.

3. I hate to be stranded.

4. I travel about 80-160 miles per day in my work...Terrell to Dallas, then Fort Worth, back to Dallas, then the 30 miles home. So I am traveling over 30k per year average...hard on any vehicle.

5. I also tow up to 5k once a week...just took a whole pallet of deck boards this morning....60 miles....96 5/4x6x16 boards....not light by any stretch.

5. Transmission rebuilds on the 4l60e runs about $2k here [reputable shop price]. Yeah, I am using the tow haul button, but hey, nothing lasts forever.

6. A 3 year warranty costs about $2100. The tranny WILL go out before this time period rolls around....it's my luck remember?

7. So at the very least it is a push for me....this way I get to pay it out without interest instead of all at once. And in the event of a catastrophic engine failure before 3 years goes by [very unlikely....I know....], well, then I have made a VERY good investment.

Thanks for the GM warranty link, I will check them out. I thoguht they wouldn't cover anything out of warranty but the website says they do....thanks!

Several GM dealers in the USA discount the GM Extended warr. online. I paid $1800 for a 6yr 100k.

Input your numbers in this GM dealers web site for discounted extended warranties: http://www.gmpp-online.com/?page=gmc_extended_warranty

I to have been considering purchasing one before 12,000 miles rolls around.

Tried it and it tells me it is still under factory warranty and won't let me past that page. Since the mileage is now 102470, I know it's not.

I should have read you post fully as the fact your truck has over 100,000 miles on it pretty much rules out the GM extended warranty I believe.

My local GM dealer told me they only go up to 110,000 miles extended. What does that tell you what they know about their vehicles?

Not much actually....these motors are usually good to at least 250k and some hit 300. Now transmissions, no not usually that long and that may be the catch for them. I'll check their prices.

If you find one you like and are going to do it, you may need to check and make sure it covers work vehicles. Even if it is privately owned and used as a company or work truck, they may deny coverage if something big and expensive breaks.... Just my two cents.....
