How Would You Build Your Lq4 ?

Recommended Posts

I've been looking into various ways of adding power to my LQ4, not that it's lacking power... it's just that there's always room for more

I've been looking at both the Forced Induction way, and Naturally Aspirated way...

I'm down to this:

and would like opinions on that kit

What more should i buy and if not this, what else ?

My plan would be to install this kit, and later on add a Supercharger... most likely a Magnacharger... anyone suggest anything else ?

i want my horses up high in the revs and big pull down low...

that's why i'm thinking about getting this 550hp setup, and then adding a Magnacharger to get the big pull in the low revs

I know how Turbos work, and i know how Superchargers work...

Although STS makes a really nice system, the remote charging doesn't cut it for me, i might have to cross deep rivers next year and with a hot turbo hitting cold water (remember that i'm in iceland and rivers here can get slightly under 0°c without freezing) can make everything go haywire...

Why would you spend over $3k for a set of heads and a cam?

I'd put a set of factory L76 heads and intake manifold on instead. Jegs sells the factory assembled head for $439 each. The intake will be a bit harder to find in a junkyard, but they're on late Escalades and Vmax trucks as well as some of the other hi perf cars/Suvs like the TBSS.

Yeah i guess if your going off road the turbo would be a little impractical....all the dyno sheets on magnachargers website show that the trucks with 5.3L are getting a little under 400 at the wheels....

they say practical applications add 120hp/120ft-lbs so that's....so your truck would have 450 crank hp and 480 ft-lbs. Some dyno tuning and a properly matched cam will get you over the 500 mark.

I just think none of us here want to see you spend 3K on that head kit and move the power band up too high to use it, than another 5k on a supercharger.

Bingo!

If you want a set of good heads, I would look for a set off of a GMT900 6.0/6.2 out of a wrecking yard. The 6.0/6.2 have the same heads and they are some of the best flowing heads GM has ever made.

Stick a good cam on it and a Magnacharger.

Like a said in one of the post that got deleted, 500hp is easy out a 6.0. BUT, 500hp at an RPM range that your truck will use it is not. A 6.0 is still relatively small cubic inch motor, you are just not going to get the kind of grunt you need/want without a Blower.
