36 15.50's On An Hd?

Well I'm back in the market again for a lift now that I no longer have the Denali. I want to run some 36 15.50's again on this Duramax like I had on my blue truck. My blue truck was a 1500 w/ a 6" Rough Country lift, a 3" body lift, and cutouts. I easily cleared 36 15.50's. I WILL be running cutouts on this truck again but my question is can I get away with just a 6" lift this time? I realize that the HD's stand about 2" taller than a 1500 but they front track is also wider. Frankly I would have liked to either have 38 15.50's on the blue truck or just a little less lift since IMO I had too much lift for those tires. Here is a couple shots of the blue truck to get an idea:

The Duramax is a work truck that I use to haul ceramic tile in and on a trailer behind it so I need it still at a usable height. I would love to throw it up on 38's or 40's but right now its not feasible with the work it needs to do. So if this truck sat an inch lower or so and I was still able to cram the 36's under it that would be perfect. Oh and I dont care if I rub a little, a hammer will help alleviate that.

If you are going to run cutouts, you may get away with a 6" lift. I would go with 8" IMO, just to be safe. The new body style trucks have such narrow wheel wells, which makes it difficult to clear larger tires.

Oops. Looks like I forgot to update my sig here. Its a '04.5 LLY 2500HD. So its the classic body style.

 

I found some pics on dieselplace.com of a guy thats running a 6" Tuff Country w/ cutouts. He has 38.5 x 14.50's and he claims he only rubs with the wheels turned all the way and going up an incline. No rubbage on flat ground.

Maybe 38's aren't out of the question after all . . .

Looks good, but honestly I think a 37 would be your answer. I'm sure you don't want any rubbing at all. I know I wouldnt. The above pic show a good amt of bumper cutting as well. I guess as long as you don't mind some cutting and rubbing, then go for the 38's

 

Well, I just read your post again and you want 36's. I'm sure you can fit them fine with the right amt of wheel backspacing with 6" of a HD

 

HA, I just read it again and noticed you dont mind using a hammer....you should def be good to go!

Hahaha. Yep I have no issue making room. I've gotten pretty good w/ a hammer and cut off wheel over the years. I'm almost leaning towards the 38 15.50's now but I'm not too sure. We'll see when the time comes.
