Gmt900 Service Air Bag Light

I've already disconnected the battery to try to reset everything, and it's still on. Has anyone else seen the issue, if so, how can I fix it? Please don't tell me I have to go to the stealership. Any relevant input would be greatly appreciated. BTW, odometer reads 38k.

#09184: Customer Satisfaction - Material Over Sensing and Diagnostic Module Retaining Moisture - (Oct 20, 2009)

.. the short version is..... your electronic sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) is covered with some acoustic padding and it gets wet causing sensor malfuntion ... and check airbag light comes on..

... your favourite dealership should be able to tackle this...

MS3DALE posted the entire TSB tonight as well in another thread

... aren't y'all glad you bought a new truck so it didn't have to be serviced so often.........

Has anyone changed this sensor out on their own? I'm not to keen on taking my truck to the local stealer. Location? Any reset/relearn process?

Thanks for the input so far.

I would not immediately assume the SDM, it could be other things to, that you would need a TECH II to diagnose. Which is only available through the dealer. Not what you want to hear, but I'd go there, it sure beats the airbag breaking your face.

I just removed the acoustic padding, now I need to know if I can reset the system, or if I have to take it in to get it cleared? Rich? Anyone?

The moisture help by the padding can damage the unit, if the moisture caused the damage removing the padding will not solve anything, the unit is damaged and will need to be replaced. Removing the padding might prevent the new unit from being damged in the possible same manner, how do you even know this module is the problem, because it could be something else you won't know with out getting it properly diagnosed.

I don't know for sure, I've just read the thread about the recall, and figured I'd try anything I could before taking it back to the dealer. The recall mentions removing the padding, but doesn't mention replacing the unit....I know, probably will have to anyway. But I am no longer covered under warranty. I don't have much confidence in the dealer. I'd rather do things myself. I'm sure removing the padding isn't going to hinder anything....agree? Hence, trying to correct the problem myself, and asking for as much info as possible.
