Ford out sells who?

Don't you hate it when the Ford motor division puts out its new truck commercials stating that they out sell all other truck's in their class.  Did you ever stop and wonder why they say this?  But of course.......they don't put GMC and Chevrolet in one catagory, they leave them seperate.  Let's say that the big three put all their numbers together in total truck sales, in which GM is the only one to have two truck lines in the same size catagory, GM would out sell Ford by about 20,000.  I found the website earlier this week that proved it and will look for it tomorrow to post it.  Just a little something that gets under my skin and burns me in the nether regions.

Anyone else bothered by the same badgering :sneek:

Well, you can't really blame them. I mean, Ford wouldn't be selling cars if they spill the beans that there's somone out there who's better than them.

Secondly, I don't know about other folks, but I don't base my truck purchase by "Who sells more". I just go by what I like, I don't "Follow the majority".

I'm with the general, even if they were the best seller that doesn't mean there the best.  You have to dig deeper.  All companies use "tricks" in there advertisements where they aren't exactly true, but the way they are worded makes them true.

Yeah, it's all marketing. They do sell more than Chevy alone.

Actual numbers are usually pretty close. Sometimes Ford does outsell Chevy/GMC combined.

Often, Ford offers great incentives for leases, etc. Back in 1998 a buddy leased an F150, ext cab, 2wd, v6 stick for $125/month! That was a 2 year 15k/year lease. I was about to pick one up at that price, that is tough to beat!

I can't remember the general offering a deal like that and I leased GM pickups for about 6 years.

Here is a link for production numbers, seems the general is currently ahead by ~14k units!

Advertising is all about using what part of the truth you can to make your product look good, while leaving out any other part of the truth you can leave out.

I have to agree about buying what you like, and selling the most not meaning it's the best.  Alot of things sell better because they are cheaper.  Well, if they can afford to sell them cheaper, then obviously they don't put as much into them, so there is a good chance they're not as good.

What it really boils down to though, is that you're going to purchase something as important as a vehicle, you should look around alot, and research it, and pick what you like the most and can afford.  You shouldn't go by what a commercial says anyway.

Don't forget about fleet sales. I think I see alot more striped down ford "company" trucks than anything else. They must be cheap(er).

I would never consider owning a truck because it is cheap(er).

Now, gas mileage / power / quality / comfort / looks are another thing.

Advertising is what it is - the creation of need - I like my AV - a plastic cladded - plastic interior tough truck - best cars/trucks I have ever had were GM's and I currently own one each from all three.
