Can The Tpms Be "shut Off"?

I picked up a set of aftermarket wheels with winter rubber monted-up on the wheels already (livin in Alaska!). They have no TPMS in them, so of course ...now the dashlight is on.

Can that system/light be "shut-off" by pulling a fuse, or any programming through the DIC or ignition switch programming?

I know the sensors can be had for as little as $25-$30 a hit ...but by the time I buy the sensors, have the rubber dismounted for install, then re-mounted and balanced. Thats a pretty healthy bill.

Any way around that system?

you can get 4 complete sensors off of ebay for $80.

the tires dont have to be dismounted to install them.... just need to pop the bead in that one section. i was able to get by without balancing mine (didnt have a balancer at the place i put my sensors in, and didnt have any vibes on the highway so i let it go). although if you're getting yours done at a shop...and they're used tires, getting them rebalanced might be a good idea anyway.

Yeah ...didn't think about that one? Good idea sk1er18! Do you need a "valve stem puller" to pull those TPMS in place, or can you just "pop'em in"?

Thanks Dude!

Guys, if you want a good, inexpensive bead breaker, here ya go. We had one of these on our farm for years, and it was amazing at how good it worked. We had rims that rusted from Cow manure, and it would pop the beads right loose. The one we had somehow disappeared a few years back.

I just bought another one of these last year, and I will have to say it is one of the handiest tools in my shop.

This thing even breaks the beads on my ATV wheels...

They are on sale right now, but I would easily pay 75 bux again if I needed another....

I just used it a month ago to put in steel stems for TPMS on my camper and boat trailer wheels.

you will want to use a stem puller. first for removal of the current stems.... i put a cut on the bottom of the stem and pull them out as one piece so you dont have to worry about dropping the back side into the tire.

Yeah ...I need one of those bead breakers, and a stem puller too. This is my first vehicle with TPMS ...guess it's time to add some tire tools to the shop.
