Cab Leak

The back carpet of my crew cab was wet after we got 4 inches of rain in 12 hours. I have a solid tonneau cover, I was parked on an inclined, combined with the porn star look of the truck (ass up in air), all the water that was falling on the tonneau cover was flowing between the box and the cab. I also did not drive during that rain fall.

I am wondering if it's possible the water made it's way in by the two cab vents located on the back wall of the cab against the box. I thought those vents were one way and just to let air out when slamming a door.

Yes. These vents are rather poorly designed with ineffective flappers.

But they're extremely convenient for running coax into the cab from the CB whips!

My dad's '09 CC developed a leak that we discovered after 3 inches of rain. Came down the back glass behind the seats and soaked the carpet. Turned out to be the 3rd brake light lens. The lens was cracked around the screw head seat, replaced the assembly which solved the problem.

Mine did the same thing, but my third brake light wasn't cracked, the seal on the back of it wasn't even touching the cab.

Same with my 07 CC last night. We had a torrential downpour last night, and my kids complained that their seat belts were wet. Went and found that the headliner in the back was totally soaked. Took it in to the dealer this morning, and he also said that it's probably the seal around the third brake light.

The dealer has been chasing leaks on mine for a while now. After replacing all of the door seals the dealer finally called GM and learned about a service bulletin on the 3rd brake light. They replaced it with one that had a redesigned seal and for now the cab is dry.

My 08 is going over to the dealer next Tuesday for a leak in the rear of the cab. When I made the appointment the bodyshop manager said it was probably the 3rd brake light but they'll check it all out.

I checked my 3rd brake light, that's where the leak came from. There's a rubber gasket around it, but it's only effective if the light assembly is properly lined up with the hole.

My headliner was soaked Sunday after a bunch of rain. Looks like the CHMSL on mine too. Just ordered a new one. Same thing happened with my '03.
