Is this the GM Thunderform box? Pics inside...

Someone is selling it but does not know which vehicle it is for. It looks like the '98 and older GM ext. cab box to me, can anyone confirm this?

The only problem with those is that they are made from plastic. IMO, MDF board is the way to go. It's heavy as heck, but the bass response you get with a box made out of MDF and sealed with silicone plus screws would be 10x better than abs plastic.

If you've never heard a sub sealed in a homemade MDF box, then you probably wouldn't care, but once you do, you really won't want a plastic sub box again. Plus, a 4x8 sheet of MDF only costs 15 bucks at Home Depot, plus screws, silicone, carpeting from PepBoys, you're talking 25 bucks max in parts.

Much cheaper and much better sounding way to go.

you could try reinforcing a plastic box with fiberglass, like people do with q-logic's custom kick panels. if people have the skill/time to make a mdf box, they probably will.but when you get lazy and just want to add some bass and be done. the premade boxes do get kind of appealing.

all right, let me know how it sounds. if i get a car. i may just slap one of those custom fit boxes like the mtx or jl into my truck, instead of spending a lot of time building a custom box.

Well it's up and running. Sounds great. Actually has a lot of bass and I can turn it up and it doesnt distort, sounds good. Both the guys at Circuit City (who installed it) were impressed with how much bass it put out.
