Hi, I have to remove the evaporator core of my chevy avalanche. How do I get into there? What part should I star diassembling, the left one or the right one?

I do have the new part on hand, and i want to install it by myself... but need your help.

Does anybody here has experience with this?

Thank you all!.

Here at this forum, if you try to open a new topic wrting about the RC2" leveling kit, you get 150 answers, no matter how many times the people here has perfectly described the function of this,

the same with Oil monitor sys, and the prblem with people changing the oil via the Oil Moniotr or the old school each 5k.

BUT,

If here you try to ask some that could be helpful for your truck, or any other question more technically, nobody answer!!!

Excuse me for this, but is the true!!!

Unless your truck has over 36K and the evaporator isn't damaged by your negligence its under warranty for 3 yrs 36K bumper to bumper.

So do you think we all drive an Avalanche and evaps that have gone bad an need replacing? The questions that are common to many people are the ones that are going to get answered first, that's simple reality. As stated above, you should have warranty, use it. Other than that I'd suggest you find a factory service manual to guide you through the process.

Okay, I'll ask... why does your evaporator need to be replaced already?

X2. Do you have any A/C experience? How are you going to pull the R134a from the system so that you can replace the evaporator? Do you have a vacuum system to prep the system for the re-charge?

If your rig is still under warranty, let a dealer do the replacing. If it's out of warranty, find a reputable auto repair shop that has trained A/C technicians and the proper equipment to do the work.

Thank you all, for your answers.

I do have the vacuum sys to prep the a/c sys, and also have the pressure monitors and the R134a tank to fill the system. I just want to know where can I start diassambling the dash, just to not get all the dash out in the way of getting onto the evaporator core.

I live in Venezuela, and GM here offer only 1year and abt. 12.000mi warranty, that i left long time ago, beacuse mine has 25.000mi now.

We did check the evaporator with and it has problems. I oreder it from gmpartsdirect, and i wanto to install it now! I need the a/c sys!.

Thank you for your interest!!

That is going to be one major hideous job. That whole operation comes pre-made by Delphi to GM for installation. That means that they just have to slap that whole unit in the truck and put the dash down on top of it. I know this isn't helpful at all, but I just want you to know that I feel bad for you. One thing you could do is go to www.alldatadiy.com and start a subscription there. It really is a great service. Basically, it is the GM service manual online. That would be what I would do in your situation.

thank you, it sounds good. I looked at the example car they have on the website, and it look good!.

I think start by diassambling the motor blow assy, beacuse i think the fan is to induce air onto the evaporator. so, near the fan would be located the evaporator core.

The evap core should be just to the left of the fan. It is a very simple replacement ONCE YOU GET TO IT. A good portion of the dash needs to come out in order to reach the evap core.

What year is it? I have 01 and 08 full shop manuals. I'd be happy to scan a few pages if it helps.

Here you have a good answer....

If I may ask, what is the problem and what is the function of the evapcore?

Good luck

Evap core is like a small radiator. The freon changes from a liquid to a gas in the evap core and it gets cold. Fan blows air over core to cool for AC use. You also have a heater core in there which does the same but for heat. Takes coolant from engine and heats up heater core then fan blows across it.

Bottom line if you have a problem with your evap core you have little or no AC.

Ok, Here's how the job is going.

Please, if you have the shop manual, please send it to me..

That's beacause We already changed the TAHOE 08 evaporatro core (under warranty, dealer did it, but it left a lot of screws coming down from the dash in the following 3months), and now the Avalanche 08 have problems with the evaporator, We do have an Silverado 08 too, so, maybe soon it may need be reemplaced (I hope NOOOO!!!!!)..

Here are pics of how we are doing it..
