Who has a single DIN stereo?

I want to get a Sony single DIN deck that plays MP3's and get rid of the stock 1.5 DIN system.  I'd love to see pictures and hear how you did it if you have one.  Did you install it yourself?  Was it easy?  Did you have a shop do it?  If so how much?  Etc etc...

to swap in a single din radio you need to get a mounting kit and a wiring harness. and it should be it. unless you start adding amps and new speakers. installing my indash monitor was a little harder then most radios. the screen part of it is a single din. but i had a din cable to run to the brain. which i couldnt mount in the dash, not enough room. but for the most part installing a normal deck is simple if you can either solder, or use crimp connectors for the wiring harness. then you put the harness right into the stock setup.

I'm installing a single DIN Sony MD player right now.  My 02 AV needed 3 pieces; an antenna adapter, a wiring harness adapter, and a radio adapter.  You can pick all your needed components up at a radio shop, K-mart, Best Buy, or Crutchfield type of store.  The radio shop will be able to tell you exactly what you need and Crutchfield can as well (but they're expensive).

As far as the look, it depends on the radio adapter you buy.  I've seen really cheap ones that look cheap, and some cheap ones that look very nice.  My radio fit's inside my dash with only the faceplate exposed.  Just the way I wanted it.  I could also sink the faceplate in if I wanted to, but found it was to hard to get the faceplate on and off.

I did have a headache figuring out the sound, but it turned out to be an internal amp in the truck.  The mechanical installation was a breeze.  I'd post or send you a picture, but I pulled it back out to clean the MD player mechanism.  It's that easy to pull in and out.  What year is your truck, and what truck is it.   It was a lot easier to install in my 02 AV than it was in my 91 S-10 Blazer.  Slightly different mounting systems.

You'll need to shift into 1st gear (set the Parking break) and start pulling from above the vent on the driver's left side.  Just pull carefully.
