Cassette to CD

Can anyone help???  I have a '93 full size 3/4 ton p/u and would like to change the remote cassette (it finally quit) in the middle of the dash to a CD player.  Any that would fit, and is there a wiring harness available to fit it to the stock stereo???

you can buy any din sized aftermarket radio. a mounting kit and a wiring harness and pretty much swap it in. the mounting kits i've seen can either replace the whole middle part, or some require you to trim the area where the tape deck is and put just a peice around it, since there isnt a whole lot of mounting depth there. the wiring harness will plug into your factory wiring. what you do is solder or use crimp connectors to wire it to your new head unit. the wiring harness will tell you what wire does what. and your new radio should have a diagram of what its wires do.

hope that helps.

I did this same exact thing to my '94.  I ordered through Crutchfield ( http://www.crutchfield.com ) and highly recommend them.  They supplied all the harnesses and connectors I needed to plug right into the stock equipment, as well as the center panel filler piece that accepts a single-DIN sized unit (it uses your vent louvers and replaces the stock one where the tape deck is).  When I did mine (Jan '94) I ordered a single CD player only -- it didn't have an AM/FM tuner in it -- because I wanted to keep the stock head unit and tuner for the radio stations.  It has worked great for me, but I don't think they sell just a CD player anymore.  You will probably have to buy a complete CD player/tuner head unit and just let the buttons to your stock radio where they are above the climate controls (they'll be there but won't work).

I don't have any pictures of the installation but let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to answer them.

Thanks!!!  After doing some more checking on the web (2 hours worth) I found 2 cd only inserts.  They were designed for kenwood, but they had the harnesses to get me by.  Should be here in a few days.

Keep us updated on how you make out.  Where did you find the 2 CD-only players?
