2009 Gmt900 - Rear Diff Leak...and Electrical Squeal?

A few questions...

After spending a day working under the truck putting the Magnaflow exhaust on, and the three inch block kit in the rear...(RC kit in the front left for another day...)

1- Anyone had issues with the driveshaft seal into the rear diff leaking, is this common? Truck has 1500 miles on it only, and leaking to the point of running down from the input shaft seal and dripping off the bottom of the diff, as well as being sprayed underneath by leaking onto the driveshaft itself? Any TSB's on this?

2- High pitched squeal while key in Accessory position...tried listening to the radio in the garage while working on the truck today, and the high pitched squeal that comes out of the truck is horrible...any fixes, or any idea what it is? I don't have the nav system...just factory XM...

Thanks for your help in advance..

maybe the elecrical noise is that speaker looking thing up on the headliner. they are easy to replace and know for making noise. put your ear by that and you can tell. your noise sounds a bit louder but thats all i got for you.

Thanks,,,this post made me sad. Seals, leaks, and resulting failure of the diff was a problem I had in my Titan. I had hoped it would not be as much of a concern now. Is this a common problem?

My truck lost the rear pinion seal at around 20k. Left drops of oil all the way up my parents driveway, the only car problem that my mother has ever diagnosed! The replacement as held up for 80k since then, though .

I have a 14SF and it doesn't leak yet but the front universal has spit a lot of its grease out under my truck.

I have this same noise. It's most annoying. Not sure what it is. It isn't coming from the speakers or the fuel pump. It appears to be coming from somewhere under the hood or in the bowels of the dash. My wife claims it's still there when the engine is running but my ears aren't that good. I can hear the pintles on the injectors, but that's about it.

Good lord,... take it to the dealership.. thats what warranties for...

Wow...thanks.

I'm posting this hoping that if there is a TSB, someone would be nice enough to let me know, before the service writer gives me the "This is the first one we've ever seen" line...and I can tell them the TSB number...

Funny thing, I thought fuel pump as well, but why would it be energized when the key is in the Accessory postion?

Going to try pulling fuses to see if I can narrow it down...

warrenty voided performance exhaust.

LOLWUT?

The performance exhaust shouldn't get you voided. However walking in with TSB's in hand is the best way to get you labeled a jack hole, at which point they will point the the 3in lift as a drive line change.

There are no TSB's for this. There has not been any major diff changes in a few years, you got an anomaly. Sure it is a common repair but not on low mileage vehicles. Take it in, let them fix it and be done with it. Not much irritates us more then someone telling us how to fix something, that is a good way for someone having a bad day to look for a reason to bounce you.

:uhoh: So you're one of THOSE kind of prick dealer mechanics, eh? All customers are or should be stupid and not give a crap what you do to their vehicles, all customers should just accept whatever you tell them as word of God, and customers who do a little research to perhaps save you some time and help themselves to understand the situation better are actually just evil and deserve to be treated like crap?

What dealer do you work at? I just want to make damn sure I never go there in my lifetime.... :smash:

Sort of what I thought he's trying to say...bring your vehicle to us, and we'll tell you what you need to fix...if we say your headlights need halogen, they need halogen, don't tell us otherwise...

Glad my service guys appreciate the fact that any issues I identify with the truck, I also alert them to any possible solutions (i.e. TSB's)...saves them the trouble, and the time...and helps to get it fixed right, the first time.

I never "tell" them how to fix it...that's their job...(to be "parts changers", whoops, I mean "mechanics")

X2, I always go in with TSB's in hand. I'm glad I did a few days ago as the warranty manager had no idea there was a TSB to replace lint seat covers and could not find it on his computer. I had to give him the TSB #.

If the dealership service manager wants to be a dick, he can void the warranty of the pinion seal due to the lift. They will say the increased driveline angle has caused the seal to wear prematurely.

    • Which one, the AT or AS?   Starfire is made by Cooper/Goodyear but at $85/tire I'd think I'd need to level-set my expectations that they may not even be round 😉 But you're saying they're decent?   I'm already into this thing $1506 in parts, fluids, etc. Totaled all my receipts today. $250 of that was replacing an EGR and MAP sensor that were probably fine, but I'm not going to return the parts since they've been installed. I'm cheap, but not that cheap. I use it, I keep it!   I may or may not make money if I sell the truck at this point, but, that wasn't really the point. And if I billed my time, I'd be hosed for real. My thought on the tires is I "might" put 1,000 miles on before selling it. I just don't want to put absolute junk on it, that doesn't do anyone any good. If the Solus solidly isn't junk, I'll definitely consider them.
    • I leave mine as is. I'm always a trip away from riding on unpaved roads. Dealer can clean it when they prep it after I trade it in for another new truck.
    • I have these on two vehicles and love them. Pepper is one of them 😉
    • 4WD. Far as I know it came stock with P's and not LT's. Definitely planning to put P's on it, but stock is a 109 XL load rating so I should probably stick within that guideline.   No rebates on anything I can see at the moment. Discount Tire is offering $50 off, but Pep Boys is very competitive on price, and also carries all the off-brand stuff. Les Schwab always wants an arm/leg, but they do good work.   It still has the original spare. Goodyear Wrangler RT/S, thing looks like a tractor tire LOL!! How times have changed.
    • 2020 Sierra 2500 HD (base model) gas engine 4wd.    All 4 windows roll down on their own. Happens somewhat randomly after stop and engine off - when engine turned off, when walking away from vehicle before or after locks activated. Pulled the window fuse F14 Instrument Panel Fuse Block Right; the driver's side still activates from driver's side door panel; passenger and back seat windows activate from local switches on their doors but not from driver's side group of switches. Power mirrors don't activate with fuse removed either (same fuse for both circuits). Problem not solved.    How can they even activate with fuse removed but they are all still opening and can control from each door?  When they open on their own, I can shut them from the switch in each door, but they don't stay closed.    Seems to be activated somehow with key fob; something bumping the key fob in my pocket or just handling - removed key fob and took it far enough away and now the windows stay closed. Replaced key fob batty just in case, no change.    Sounds like some kind of wiring short or maybe electronics. Dealer will first replace electronic control module without checking anything else and I anticipate problem will still exist since their troubleshooting skills are limited to "do whatever the computer says".  In any case, keyfob seems to be activating the circuitry.    Surely I'm not the only one with this issue, but I can't find anything related on the site. What do yall think?   JohnRoy
