2005 Silverado Speedometer Dont Work

I have a 2005 silverado with 97000 miles on it...i was driveing home from work today when i looked down and it said i was doing 90mph which really i was going about 60...all my other guages work just fine just my speedometer dont work right...can anyone help here? How much would the part cost to buy?

stepper motor is gone in your speedo.

 

You bring it to a dealership and there is a plan in place to replace it. It should be free.

7 years or 70k for free replacement. OP states 90k

 

OP you can have yours rebuilt or you can replace it. Ebay is one source for both. Several reputable rebuilders there

Ok...I knew they had a plan to replace them...thought it was 100K though...thanks Darral.

 

yeah like Darral said...e-bay. the motors are like 11 bucks.

My speedometer just went out on my 05 truck as well. Talked to Chevy and they said it is not covered under warranty. From what I have seen online its only the 03-04 trucks that are covered to the 70k. My truck only has 36k, seems a bit premature to have it go out.
