Speedo, Tach, And Amps Gauges

I have a 2004 Chevy 2500HD. The speedometer, tach, and amp gauges are acting up. The tach and amp gauges sometimes work and sometimes do not. When the amps are reading wrong, the needle will be wrapped all the way past full scale. The tach is just hit and miss as to what it is going to read. The speedometer works fine up to about 60 mph, then it will make jerky increases to about 65 mph, then smooth out and work fine. I have heard from other Chevy truck owners that the instrument cluster is a common and known problem with these vehicles. Is there anything that I can do to fix this, or is this a dealer repair? If a dealer repair, how much would I be looking at to have repaired?

2004-up cluster have issues and there's a TSB out for them. 70,000 miles is what they are covering them to. If your out of the warranty, then it's cheaper to just buy a new one off ebay for alot less than the dealer will charge. Along with that, who ever you buy it from, will need to program the mileage and hour meter on the new cluster prior to shipping.

Cost is under $260

Good luck and welcome to the site :smash:

Should I have been notified about this from GM or the dealership? I now have 100K miles, so, this TSB does me no good. Thanks for the reply and the welcome to the site!

Thanks, but I'm down south of Houston on the Gulf Coast.

You can buy a new or used cluster or buy the stepper motors and replace them. If you go w/ a different cluster you'll have to have the hours/mileage programmed in to the new unit. There is an authorized service center in the Dallas area as well.
