2wd V's 4wd Front Ends

when i was working on my hd this weekend and greasing the ball joints i noticed that the spindles had the splines cut in them. its a gmt900 2wd.

 

i wonder if they did that to keep cost down? i would assume. i like lifted 4wd trucks, but not a fan of the lifted prerunner trucks. to me i think 4wd up and 2wd down.

 

but anyhow, they might be the same part#. just if someone ran across 2wd spindles and needed to replace there 4wd one for some odd reason they might work.
