Mpg Question

people that have a 1500 ex-cab 4x4 with 5.3 and auto. What gear does your pickups have? what do you make for mpg's? 99 and up

people that have a 98 and down with the 5.7 and auto 1500 ex-cab 4x4 what gears do you have and what do you make for mpg's?

 

I have not got a chance to drive a pickup with the 5.3 yet but I have talked to some. most say that is does not get any better on mpg that the 5.7. They have said that you have to rap them up more.

 

Would a 2500 in the same configureation make any difference in mpg? same motor, trans, gears ect.

I have an 09 crew cab with the 5.3 and 3.43 rear. It gets a whopping 12 in the city 16 on the highway. Its a tremendously under powered engine for the truck if you live where there are any hills at all. If you live where its flat and you don't tow, I bet you could get 20MPG out of one. If you have any hills the engine has to work too hard and barely has enough power to get out of its own way.

Up untill a year ago I had a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Extended Cab Z71 with 5.3 and 4 speed auto. I can't remember what gears were in it but 3.42 comes to mind. I was getting 17L/100KM (14Miles/USgallon) in the city and 12.4L/100KM (19Miles/USgallon) on the highway. Someone else who has/had the same truck might be able to chime in and tell you what gearing was in it.

 

The truck I have now, a 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab Z71 with 5.3 and 6 speed 3.42 gearing is getting 15L/100KM (15.7Miles/USgallon) in the city and 10L/100KM (23.5Miles/USgallon) on the highway.

 

Both trucks were stock. The reasons I might have been getting better mileage than some others are: 1. I drove sanely in the city. 2. I used cruise control on the highway as much as possible 3. I kept my highway cruising speed down to 100KPH (62MPH). and 4. I increased my tire pressures from the 35PSI on the door sticker to 40PSI. Cruising at 100KPH instead of my usual 120KPH saved me 20% in fuel and the extra 5PSI in tire pressure saved me another 10%. Just those things added to gether saved me a whopping 30% in fuel.

2000,2001,2003 & 2004 service truck and all are EXTSB, 5.3L, 4x4, 3:73, 265/65/16 and all get 15-17 cty & 17-19 hwy. The oldest the 2000 has 255K+ without touching internal of the engine using Mobil 1 with the OLM.

My 2009 GMC K15 5.3L with 4 spd, 3.73 gears gets the same mileage as my 1990 Chevy K1500 with a 5.7L 4 spd, not sure of the gear ratio. 14-15 mpg in town, about 19 mpg highway. The GMC is about 100 more hp, and about 900 lbs more weight, so not too bad.

02 extended cab Sierra here. No idea what gears I have though and I also have a lift kit on the truck. Never figured it out in town, on the highway I get 16-17mpg.

I have an '04 ecsb z71 silverado with 3.73's. 265/70 17's. I get around 16 to 17 mpg combined.

Ditto, as with the 5.3 engine & 3.73 gearing, 16-17mpg combined is a good number. I see 13mpg around town in the winter, 18mpg highway. Usually the average is 16 point something, usually closer to 17mpg. In the summer the average is usually 17 point something. For a 4x4 truck with that kind of power I feel that is good. Occasionally I have seen 20mpg or a little better on straight highway driving at 65 mph but any city driving really knocks down the average.

that sounds perty good. I will be looking for a 99-01 1500. I dill not be able to pay a great deal for it so I will have to get a pickup with 150-200k on it. any of you guys have high mile on your pickups?

Mines got 150000 km thats about 93000 miles.
