Tahoe Front Wheels Wont Engage

My 2001 Tahoe wont engage the front wheels. The problem just started today. The light cycles when when you go to 4 hi , but no front wheel drive in either auto or 4Hi. I checked wiring etc . Any ideas ? Thanks guys.

 

I forgot to mention that I can hear the motor shifting on the case.

 

I jacked it up so all wheels are off the ground. It goes into 4 wheel drive when its off the ground , but on the ground it wont work ..... Please someone !!!!!

30mph the fronts still dont turn ... I drained the burnt fluid out of the case today. I would guess the clutch es are fried.

Well. I took out the case and split it. I found the clutch plates fried. I replaced the 10 steels and the 10 fibres. I replaced all of the seals and installed a case saver.I had a new chain , but the old one was far from being shot, so the old one got reused. With Autotrac fluid and new U-Joints Its all done for under $200. A very simple case to work on ... and she works like a new one . The wife is back on the road
