I have a 1998 z71 that is having starting issues. The truck seems to start all the time but it sounds like the drive is still engaged with the ring gear. When I shut the truck off and remove the keys the engine continues to turn over until I disconnect the battery.Sometimes it also seems that the starter drive is already meshed with the ring gear when I start it.I replaced the starter less than a year ago.Do I need a new starter already?

That's Impossible...your starter would have cooked in about 10 min if this were the case. What it sounds like you have is a problem called dieseling. It happens when your timing is way out...or when carbon deposits build up so bad on your pistons that they keep firing the engine even after it has been shut off.

You fix the latter by using a product called seafoam, or something similar. The timing has to be done by someone who knows how to time your vehicle.
