Everyone, I have a guy at work i work with, and his Rainer has an issue with his fuel gauge. I can't remember when he fills it if it stays at 1/4 of a tank or empty. I believe a 1/4, but he fills it with gas and then it doesn't go to full. After driving it a day it will show full, as it should. Then be fine the rest of the tank. Is this the sending unit in the tank? Or the gauge? Any ideas?

 

I also read about Chevron's Techron, where you put a bottle in your tank and how it claims it can fill fuel gauge readings, do you think this would help/cure the problem? I told him its worth a shot and we can try it.

 

If the sending unit what does that usually run and can you do it yourself, drop the tank i assume? It doesn't bother him terrible, but enough if it was something we could do to fix pretty easy, like most would. Thanks for the help in advance. Ryan

      I'm surprised nobody seems to offer a solution like the start/stop device I put in my new truck. Remembers my setting when shutdown. And while it still starts up in start/stop, it stores/evaluates what mode it was in when shut down and will change it whithin a second or 2 of startup. It'd be nice to have something like that for the DRLs.

      2015 Sierra 1500 here. Leaks from the sunroof to front driver side and soaks carpet. How do I fix this? Thanks!

      I will be doing that for sure, but I need to solve who has/ where I can find a bidirectional scan tool that will support OBD 1.5. I'm kicking myself because I ebay'ed a Snap On MT2500 that I didn't think I'd ever need anymore. D'oh!! I'd rather not buy another, so I'll contact a few local shops to see if they have one and how much they'd want to do the procedure. I'd rather have the ability to do it myself... I wish there was a modern tool that could do it all, but I'd have no idea what to buy.   The theory with the pulled timing is that it mimics a rich condition. The delayed spark causes incomplete burn and the O2 sensor picks up low oxygen levels. That's interpreted as a rich condition so the PCM pulls fuel and that shows up in the deeply negative fuel trims.

      There's a bunch of tea leaves that you've read, but in any case the delayed timing is unusual. Not sure how that relates to the rich at idle vs. 'normal' while driving.   If you're in this deep, might be worth investigating, and re-learning the sensor. What have you got to lose? Plus, it properly fixes the timing cover leak.
