04 Avalanche Cruise Control Not Working

Recommended Posts

The cruise control on my 2004 Avalanche has suddenly quit working. When trying to set, I can agressively and repaetedly press the "set" button and the indicator light will barely flicker. I have checked the fuse and the tail/brake lights, but they are fine. The one thing I wonder about is if there is some sort of sensor that could have been affected by me running through some very deeep snow drifts on Christmas day. I washed the truck and have it in the garage with a heater running underneath to melt the snow/ice. Any suggestions? Should I pull the battery cable to try resetting it?

Mine when out too. Everything I found said it was the "stop lamp switch." When I went to dealership to buy the switch they said that is the most common problem. It cost me $27 (was not the easiest thing to replace but was able to do it with my limited set of mechanical skills). I found a video on youtube from a shop teacher in Minnesota that shows how to replace it. Try that for a cheap start? This did not solve my problem but I was certain it was due to how many people said it would be.

I'd look in the dash and up through the column for (if I remember right) two orange wires going to the switch. One or both of them could be broken, preventing cruise from working.
