Wierd Noise From Top Of Engine..?

2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 Z71 5.3L

Tonight, I noticed a wierd noise coming from somewhere in or around the black plastic piece on top of the intake that the throttle body connects to. It is a clicking noise, not extremely loud but I can hear it when sitting in the cab with the fan and radio off. It seems to be coming from either side of the upper part of the intake, almost like around the fuel rails.

 

Does the fuel pressure regulator make a funny noise when it is about to go bad? Seems that the noise could be coming from somewhere around that. I am almost positive it is not an exhaust leak as I know what that sounds like. The noise seems to be clicking with the rythem of the engine running. Any Ideas?

Valve train noise?

 

My GTO is noisy as hell in that dept. You can hear it at idle with the hood closed. And I've got some rumblin' exhaust and a supercharger on top of the motor. Sounds like a sewing machine.

Yes, I think it could be valve train noise. Also, could it be the injectors? Would they ever make a noise like that?

 

What would be some things I could do to try to quiet it down? any additives to the oil to help valve train noise? I was thinking about trying some Lucas Injector Cleaner/Upper Cylinder Lube to see if that will quiet down the injectors. Any other ideas? Thanks for your reply.

Other than swapping out the valve train, I don't know that I've heard of a legit way to make it quieter. And I don't know anybody that's swapped one out for quietness...Only for performance.

 

Roller rockers maybe?

 

I kind of like the noise myself.

 

Don't see how the injectors could be making as much racket as you describe either...But it's hard diagnosing something like this over the internets
